Preview: Nitrobike sounds promising on Wii

Nitrobike (Wii)
Being the Excite Truck junkie that I am, I’m looking forward to this one. Wikipedia previews the goods:

Nitrobike will feature gameplay that is somewhat similar to its predecessors Excitebike 64 and Excite Truck. The controls in this game will be very similar to Excite Truck, with players holding the Wii Remote on its side and twisting the remote to the right or left in order to steer.

The physics in this game, while still retaining some aspect of realism, will have a very arcade-like feel. According to the CEO of Left Field Productions, James Higgins, the game will be about five times as fast as Excitebike 64, and players will be able to perform more impressive jumps than in the game’s predecessors. Higgins also noted that by performing tricks while in the air, players will be able to boost longer, which in turn will allow them to finish tracks faster.

Nitrobike will feature online play allowing up to six players to race against each other simultaneously. Players can compete in random worldwide matches or exchange friend codes to play against friends. The game will keep record of the number of races friends have competed in and the number of first place finishes.

Nitrobike races onto Wii on January 15, according to Ubisoft. Newish screens and videos here.

I’ve been following this game ever sine it was announced at one of the Expos earlier this year. Since I too love Excite Truck, Nitrobike seems like a must-buy for me =]

    lol @ above comment muHuhAHUAHhaaa

on topic: with this and no more heroes coming from Ubisoft, perhaps they were right with their comment on games getting close to Nintendo quality… I´m definetly getting both!

nintendoh8er was banned for baseless use of the f-bomb in multiple troll-inducing comments.

Lame. Haven’t you got anything better to do with your time?

The multiplayer sounds good. That was the weak spot in Excite Truck.

Yeah, this game looks fun. I loved excite truck so hopefully this will help give me that fix. I’m really hoping they announced Excite Truck 2 asap.

I loved Excitebike 64. If this is just as good or better I will buy this for sure. Ecpecially since Excite Truck was a lot of fun and the controls are amazing but it lacks depth and lasting multiplayer value (like Smash Bros or Mario Kart).

Hey, i think my brother is nintendoh8ter! I sent a text to him asking if thats him but he didnt respond. I gave him my 360 and i think he overdosed on mindless violence. I think he has becomed “wiitarded” unable to enjoy fun games on the wii due to an overdose of of xbox360 or playstation. He forgot what makes a game fun and worth playing and only enjoys ultra violent games being afraid of being called a wuss.

I’m definitely getting it. I love racing games, I won’t pass up a chance to play the next great thing. All of the screens for this game do remind me of Jet Moto for playstation though, and that’s a good thing.

Hey Mr pat, Punch your brother for us. ^_^

Anyways, I’ve been excited about this title for a while. I actually thought that it was meant to be out already. The trailer released some months ago was also quite neat as well. Looks like a 3rd party is putting some effort into a Wii game which is mildly promising. I’ll look out for reviews.

I am also a huge fan of Excite Truck. However, without online playability I will probably wait for Mario Kart. Not because I am a huge Mario Kart fan, I am, but because of the lack of online which is clutch for me when it comes to enjoying a racing game for more than the several hours it takes to beat every level.

Excite Truck is still for me the best Wii game, so far…
