Mega Man 9 sells 140,00 in one week, makes $1.4 million in revenue

One week ago today, Mega Man 9 sold a healthy 60,000 digital copies via WiiWare. Now, one week later, the title has continued to show promise, with 140,000 copies sold and $1.4 million in revenue.
That’s a pretty good chunk of change for Capcom. The game was inexpensive to produce (and I’m talking strictly time, not talent), and was a blast to play, so here’s hoping other developers are taking note–if they haven’t started development already.
On a final note, what better way to celebrate MM9’s success today than a great new Penny Arcade comic. As always, it’s funny because it’s true.
Update: These are WiiWare downloads (says VG Chartz tracking data).

Expense, just like the $1.4m in revenue, is measured in money, not “strictly time” or “talent”.

Thanks, Chris. Poorly explained on my part. I just don’t want people saying this game was “easy to produce” just because it was 8-bit. It’s simply not true.
Fair enough?

Do I ever have to get this game. But I promised myself I’d finish 1 and 2 first.
Gotta give the Penny Arcade guys credit though, they know how to distill their thoughts on a game down to what is really their point. Great comic.

The PA comic is definitely funny – and true.
So what is the breakdown of the 140k copies? Are they all WiiWare?
IIRC, it was released on PSN this week as well…

I’m playing through the old ones before buying this… and am almost finished MegaMan 5 right now (well, I’m at the “Protoman” castle). Won’t be long, although 5 and 6 are essentially new games to me since I abandoned NES MegaMan games around that time.
On a semi-related note, did anyone notice similarities between Wave Man’s stage in MM5 and Splash Woman’s level in MM9? In the Nintendo Channel MM9 info video, at the 0:43 mark, there is a scene copped exactly from Wave Man’s level where you have to jump on rising bubbles. Of course, a single screen is hardly worth getting excited about… but it made me wonder how much (if any) of the rest of the game is recycled material.

I was a Mega Man virgin so I bought the anniversary collection for the cube. I’m currently playing Mega Man 1 and it is brutally hard. I’m sticking with it, but it can be very frustrating. I hear the second game is better. Maybe I’ll get to find out if I ever complete this one.

Still weird that PA used a 360 controller on their comic instead of a Wiimote which would have brought the feeling of nostalgia and going back to childhood full circle…

Just to point out; PA is never funny. ;/
