3D Link’s Awakening Project
Sunday, September 14th, 2008 at 4:00pm by WillSomeone going by the moniker MithosKuu is undertaking a huge project to totally remake all the maps of Link’s Awakening entirely in 3D. So far all the person has completed is Mabe Village, which looks pretty impressive to me I have to say. When asked if he was going to do a full on 3D remake he responded with this.
I get this question every time I post about this, at the moment I am just modeling every area of the game, once it’s done I will attempt to turn it into a full on remake
So far it looks really good, I can’t wait to see the rest of the world in 3D.

That is pretty cool. I say keep it a 2d game, like Pokemon Diamond & Pearl. That was a sweet looking game

Just to clarify I did mean pseudo 3d by saying 2d. keep the same perspective throughout, but make it look 3d.

I did something similar for my dissertation in BA Computer Games Design.
Check it out.

Some of the texturing is a bit messy but then I only had a few months to do it and as you’ll see I was quite ambitious with what I was planning to do, and it was mainly a modelling project.

@ Benji Dude: That’s some pretty good modelling, if I may say so. Nonetheless, the project by MithosKuu is a little more honest to the original game. His models are very flat, but the texturing is absolutely fabulous. Same goes for the renders, they are being rendered as if it really is a 2D game.
Although they are pretty basic, but that’s part of the charm.
The only thing I could say is that the render shown is being lighted by an omni light, and it would be better to use a direct ray.
But nice concept nonetheless! Again, why didn’t I come up with this idea?! Darned

Thanks for the comments Frexy.
“The only thing I could say is that the render shown is being lighted by an omni light, and it would be better to use a direct ray.”
This is true but I was somewhat up against it when it came to doing renders at one point it was taking 25 minutes a frame, god only knows how long it would have taken with proper lights and ray tracing!
