1UP reports that Zelda: Phantom Hourglass has scored a near-perfect 39/40 review score in Japan (Famitsu). Three reviewers gave the game a 10 while a lone fourth one gave it a nine. From the review:
It is so easy to pick up! There have been many games using the stylus, but this one didn’t feel frustrating for the most part… The way it allows players to use the unique features of the DS is quite natural. Particularly puzzles where you draw directly on the map are brilliant. It feels like you really are physically solving the puzzles.
Considering how boring the multiplayer was at last year’s E3, this is good news. Phantom Hourglass hits the States this holiday.

If three reviews gave it a 10, and one gave it a 4, wouldn’t the total be 34/40?
Pretty sure he meant that the fourth one gave it a nine.
Either way, that’s good news. I’d be interested in hearing more about what the reviewers had to say about the title in terms of control, but 39/40 will definitely help me wait for a State-side release.
Blake’s typos strike again. Fixed to “nine.”
Well I didn’t need Famitsu to tell me that a Zelda game is going to kick ass. This just ups my excitement for the game.
sweet. but i also want to know if this zelda will be challenging as well. zeldas more and more feel like a choose your own adventure. I want some challenge with my story please.
Cool. Another great DS game for us all.
I was sold on this game after seeing the Japanese TV CM’s. Another one for the DS collection. I need a new DS game. I’m sufferring from withdrawals after completing Hotel Dusk.
Gimmie!
Very interesting! I really thought this game would do well.
Yeah, but Fimatsu also gave the freaking Gundam game on the PS3 an almost perfect score.
They tell their fans what they want to hear, not how the games actually are.
I mean, I’m sure the Zelda game is good, but NEVER judge a game by what Fimatsu says.
This game is in my Four Games I Must Buy In 2007 list at #2. I have total faith that I’ll enjoy this more than I have Twilight Princess.
