I still don’t get why bob would so desperately try to release his game for a closed system, when so much open alternatives are available. Besides the obvious choice of just releasing bob’s game for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows, there are also other mobile Platforms like Android or the iPhone that are more welcoming to independent developers. There is also the GP2X open source handheld for which a game like bob’s would be a significant boost.
But at this point I have serious doubts that getting released is really everything bob cares about. Btw. has anyone seen bob’s game alive and running in the real world somewhere? ever?
Nearly 8 minutes of dialog?? Damn!! Whats with all the insulting back and forth?? That was horrible. I recently graduated college, studied programming, and I got a little insulted by what the other guy was saying. And Bob (the game character) was way too full of himself and his game. Maybe if Bob didn’t pull that whole stunt on his site when he went “crazy” this wouldn’t have been so horrible, but still its pretty bad.
I still want to try the game when it is released, but I highly doubt I will buy it.
People are just being naive if they think that the games industry is just about having fun and making great games. It is still an industry and companies like Nintendo’s main goal is always going to be making money.
Blah blah blah, shut up already! Jesus, 8 minutes of that crap? We get it, you’re upset they didn’t make your game. Tough! Get over it. I’m so turned of on this game by this guy’s constant whining. If he had just put it out there for free on the Internet we could have all seen if it was any good, and if it was popular, he would have gotten picked up.
So the general concensies is that he should have given away his life’s work for free, sacrificed his vision, and applied for a job as a texture trimer working on the next Pets game.
In other words, lay down and take his bullet right know. How dare he fight for better!
Yanno, maybe, just MAYBE this is why this game wasn’t green lit to begin with… What’s so innovative of playing a self-absorbed game designer?
It’s not even a decent satire of the gaming industry; it’s just plain whine…
And c’mon! People bitch about the overly long cut scenes (I’m looking at you MGS!)… And those are fully animated! Haven’t he realized it’s much worse when 8 minute long dialogue is on text form!?
@chris_wing, well if he gave it away (like a whole lot of people do” at least people wold play it and he could get some good publicity for it. And working crap jobs is just part of paying your dues, no one goes and works on multimillion dollar projects right out of the gate.

No. The way it works in life is you start at the bottom, you pay your dues, and MAYBE if you are lucky you’ll get to make your dream project. It’s not like every great designer just woke up one day, made a game and got someone to publish it!
Even Miyamoto had to start off at Nintendo as just a “staff artist.”
This guy sounds like a spoiled brat to me, pitching a fit because it’s not working the way he planned it.
So he has a choice: Start small and hang on to his dream, and maybe he’ll get a chance to make it for real some day, or he can put it out there as-is for free, so the world can see it, but I guess he won’t get rich that way.
So which is it: Art or commerce? Bob seems to think he should be able to have it both ways as a NOBODY, and the world just doesn’t work that way.
Art for art’s own self absorbed self important sake. Funnily enough, many people find its self obsession as time wasting and obscene, particularly when it expects high payouts in return for its own brand of unasked ‘provocative’ commentary, and even more so when it gets it (this game hasn’t gone that far).
On a tangent, I will remind everyone of a bit of history at this point (as far as I remember it anyway).
Miyamoto wanted to try Mario Bros in America. Nintendo was new to America and were told Focus Group Testing was the way to go. So they tried Mario on a bunch of boys and teenagers, who immediately proclaimed the game boring, shit and other colourful shades of negative. Miyamoto was disheartened to the point of giving up with the idea of the game in America, but president Yamauchi told him not to worry about it, that he had confidence in his designers’ products and that they’d try it anyway. This by the way was the same man who never touched a video game himself, the same man we’ve called a negative asshole who dared say no to Sony and Microsoft, but the same man who had the right sense at the right time about what people might like. Well, the rest they say, is History.
sheesh… you guys are really being mean to this guy, so it has long dialogs of story, but think about how much work and effort he put in the game for you guys just to say it sucks, It looks like a really cool game and just becuase he says “ITS THE BEST GAME EVA BUY IT!!” doesn’t mean its true, When you guys grow up and sell a product, you wanna find ways to sell it so thats the best way. All i’m saying is be nice to the creator of this game it looks really fun
@Anthony
Are you telling me that you’ve never played a game before and didn’t like it? Sure he put a lot of effort in to it, no one is saying otherwise, as a matter of fact I applaud him for his effort. However in the long run if I or any other gamer wants to read a book then we will, we don’t need a game for that. Look at pokemon games: short dialog, great storyline. Not a fan of pokemon? how about Zelda. Again short dialog and great storylines. Nearly 8 minutes of non stop insulting between two characters in a game is boring and stupid. He could have cut that entire thing down to AT MOST 4 minutes, if not less.
He’s just dissing Nintendo in this video, anyway. After all the things he’s done, talking trash, vandalism, nervous psychotic breakdown, he still expects people to buy this game, and expects Nintendo to listen. And Nintendo’s nothing like what Bob says they are in this video.
I’m-a go see if this guy has a Wikipedia entry. Maybe edit it and burn it down.
Well, that’s kind of pointless because it’s just his interpretation with no evidence. So it might have been just 8 minutes of the executive saying he likes to smell his own farts.
Oh, and after that he better make sure his game is awesome. (Though I think it would be funnier if it was just horrible.)
… The logical fallacies in that dialog and the extremely distorted world view are bad enough, but the fact that there’s a lack of cohesiveness between the two character’s positions as they move from argument to argument in a completely unbelievable and haphazard way makes me cringe.
It’s just plain poorly written in addition to being misguided at best.
someone just compared bob to miyamoto and that doesn’t bother anyone? apples and oranges my friend. i highly doubt miyamoto then went on a 40 day ranting spree after the focus group didn’t like mario bros. he also got lucky. going from a no one to top designer is like winning the lotto. only a few people will ever achieve that status whether you believe so or not. bob is definitely not one of them.
Also remember that Miyamoto worked at Nintendo for years before he was a big shot. He started there in 1977 as an artist. Donkey Kong came in 1981 Super Mario Bros. didn’t come out until 1985!!!! So I think it’s pretty clear that he paid he dues and got his reputation well before anyone took a “chance” on a project of his.
So Bob needs to shut up, get a job and work his way to into the spotlight instead of trying to force his way in.
Ooooo… Sour grapes.
The music is really nice…

Bob’s sense of entitlement makes me want to fart on his face. Just sayin….

Just remember that this is likely referring to the evil “Gantendo” corporation from inside Bob’s Game. Don’t take it too seriously.
If you think this is depressing, wait until you’re actually in the industry…
I wish Nintendo would just publish the game, it would sell like 5 copies. Then Nintendo could tell Bob – “told ya so”
This is a refreshing game, I want to play it, I am serious.
People are just being naive if they think that the games industry is just about having fun and making great games. It is still an industry and companies like Nintendo’s main goal is always going to be making money.

Cave Story says “hello.”
Douchebag…

Bob thinks Bob’s Game is great and that EVERYONE will love it? Watta twist! We get it, Bob. Shut yer yap, already!
P.S. Turn down your volume.
@chris_wing, well if he gave it away (like a whole lot of people do” at least people wold play it and he could get some good publicity for it. And working crap jobs is just part of paying your dues, no one goes and works on multimillion dollar projects right out of the gate.
Don’t you guys think your being a little too harsh? This is the game’s storyline after all. He’s just deciding to play it out in real life too!

Well, we’ve reached it.
This is the point
This is true ‘art’
Art for art’s own self absorbed self important sake. After this guy plastered his bob’s game posters all over Nintendo World, I have no interest in his game.
