WiiFit launches on May 19

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 at 9:34am by Press Release

Wii Fit demonstrates Nintendo’s commitment to gamers of all kinds. It combines fun and fitness for every member of the family to keep active and play together. Wii Fit launches May 19 in the United States and comes with the weight-and-motion-sensing Wii Balance Board that Nintendo representatives demonstrated could hold great promise for future game development as well. Third-party publishers are already working on new games and applications that will make use of the Wii Balance Board. Additionally, Wii Fit includes access to the Wii Fit Channel, an interactive channel that lets users check in each day to track their fitness progress through weight and BMI. In Japan, Wii Fit has sold more than 1.4 million units since its Dec. 1 launch.

    A note about the included Wii Fit Channel:

    This channel appears on the Wii Menu when people first use Wii Fit, which combines fun and fitness. It’s an easy way for every member of the family to keep active and play together. In a first for a Wii game, owners of Wii Fit can access the channel to perform basic daily workouts and fitness checks, even if the Wii Fit game disc is not inserted.

    hmm, I’ve got this simple question and I’m affraid of the answer. Does anyone have any slight idea about the weight restriction for the board? I mean…I don’t think this board would support people who might be +200 lbs….though, I’d like to get this to drop my extra baggage.

    @Lunar - I found this on Wikipedia:

    Ideally Nintendo would like to launch a same-sized Balance Board worldwide, although after receiving feedback from Wii Fit’s Japanese launch Nintendo decided an “American-sized” Balance Board is needed, as the Japanese model is designed to support people weighing up to 300 pounds (136 kg). The “Western” Balance Board will support people of a weight up to 330 pounds (150 kg).
