Wii Needs - board games

While games like Uno, Settlers Of Catan, and Backgammon are showing up on Xbox Live Arcade, so far Wii is missing out on board games. Using the Wii Remote to point, click, or even grab a chess pawn seems like a natural match up. Developers could even get silly and have you use a card dealing motion while holding the Wii-mote.
Having released Clubhouse Games, Nintendo knows that traditional-styled online gaming can be a success. The Mario Party games have always used a board game theme.
What board games do you think should be released for Wii?

Scotland Yard.
Oh, and mousetrap. That was the greatest non-game ever.

Parcheesi.
And if they’re ever going to do Mouse Trap, they need have the “broken mouse trap” option. You know, where parts of the game are missing and you have to improvise to make it work? That was my favorite part of playing that game!

Isn’t it kind of pointless to make board games for the wii? the only reason I would play board games on a console would be online multiplayer. But the wii isn’t really a strong online console so… local multiplayer makes no sense to me, why bother watching a tv-screen when you can have the real game for a lower price and its more fun that way anyway? I have the same problem with justifying a purchase of settlers on XBLA..
there is though one board game I could see myself playing on the wii and that is Mario Party Wii…

Monopoly and scrable > all

I would think Mario Party is going to cater to the board gaming masses. That would be one title I wouldn’t mind picking up, but once again…My Rayman Rabbids is collecting dust cause I have no one to play that with.

Well, chess, backgamon, checkers are naturals but also othelo, go, mahjong and Settler’s would be great. There is also that other board game similar to Settler’s that is coming out on the Live Arcade. Can’t remember the name though.
Well, some benefits of having these types of games on a console are that you don’t have to store half a dozen big boxes. You don’t lose pieces. You can start and end a game just like that and don’t have to set up and put away.
Also I think the Wii would be ideal for all those other party games like Outburst, Scategories even Pictionary. There are all those with the timers, buzzers and things you shake. The wiimote is perfectly suited to those types of games. Isn’t there even a game where you shake some device and toss it around and it has a timer or something? The wiimote is built for that type of thing. We know it can withstand a lot of abuse right?

I was actually thinking about this very thing yesterday. Aside from Gears of War, there is (or was) absolutely nothing about the XBox 360 that appealed to me. I have a Wii and am happy.
That was until yesterday, when I saw both Settlers of Cataan and Carcassonne screenshots.
Of course, playing those would require online connectivity, and we all know THAT will never happen with Nintendo. So sad.
Nintendo had better floor me with *something* before the end of this summer, or they’ll lose me to MS (and that’s very painful to say, because I’m a Nintendo fanboy and Linux wonk).

Risk. With online play, of course.

I think the Nintendo DS needs Scrabble. Anyone else?

@gooble
Bop-It! I think you just figured out Wii’s next killer app!

I’d love some board games (on the vc maybe). The one feature I would really want have to have is online multiplayer via messages, like mail chess. It’d make long games like Risk and much more bearable to play and actually finish a game.

I have to agree with other Josh. RISK!

Apples To Apples!

There should be a party style game for Cranium on Wii!

I think the choice of “Clue” for the photo in this article was right on the money. There have been some great Clue games before, and the Wii remote could make them even more fun. I’m also a sucker for any port of Monopoly, and the Wii seems a perfect platform for “Trivial Pursuit” type games where additional content could be downloaded later to update the game.
