Wii is fastest selling U.K. console ever

The momentum slows increases exponentially…
The Nintendo Wii has become the UK’s fastest-selling home console in history, with 1 million units sold in 38 weeks. It was 50 weeks before PlayStation 2 hit the 1 million mark, while Xbox 360 took 60 weeks to reach the same target. According to Chart Track, the Wii now has a 68 per cent share of the UK home console market. The Nintendo DS also continues to perform well and has an 86 per cent share of the handheld market.
Brilliant.

And Wii did it in what is supposedly a “PlayStation territory”!
Good job!

apparently this was already baked into the price- it didn’t stir from its (lofty) heights on this news.
MS and PS are doing an amazing job of losing this generation. One needs advertising and one needs games. Ninny’s ads remain catchy and its games are generally enough to satisfy the audience. Still, I’m guessing halo3 drives some 360 adoption. If the game is amazing, it might drive a lot and get people on gold subscriptions. and even despite all that, i don’t see it competing with nintendo very directly here.

Not surprised. Not surprised at all. deepthought make an interesting point about advertising. Nintendo is never off the damn TV in the UK right now. Last month I have seen the following on TV:
Three separate Big Brain Academy for Wii ads.
The Nicole Kidman More Brain Training ad plus an infomercial style ad.
NEW New Super Mario Bros and Animal Crossing ads.
Two Pokemon D+P ads: one for kids, one for an older crowd centering on the chat room and Wi-Fi modes.
One for Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Nintendo’s publishing and marketing it here)
That’s not even mentioning that most of these occured during popular prime time shows.
Or the Channel 4 sponsorship deal where EVERY UK made comedy show on the station has bumpers for everything from DKR DS, Mario Strikers to Tiger Woods and Wii Sports.
I haven’t seen any first party ads from Sony or Microsoft during that period.
Nintendo has the exposure. It’s only natural they should have this amount of success considering the marketing expenditure.
Quite the reversal from even one or two years ago.

Wow, I really can’t say that I expected to see that, only a couple of my friends have Wii’s.
