Wii Hacked to play PS1 games?!
Friday, September 12th, 2008 at 12:34am by WillApparently a small group of homebrew coders are working on a new project called WiiSX. WiiSX is a Playstation 1 Emulator, that seems to be working really well on the Wii hardware. Although, it does have a few kinks, it’s pretty amazing how far the homebrew scene has come with consoles and handheld devices.

Great, that’s all we need. I can just hear it now - The Nintendo Wii is so advanced that it can actually handle PlayStation 1 games.

This is actually pretty cool, coding an emulator for a console is usually very hard and none ever run at full speed. Hell even the PSP can’t run PS1 game right half the time. This is actually pretty amazing.

I totally agree. I’m normally disappointed in emulation but this seems pretty awesome. I don’t know why though… Maybe the possibility of Wiimote+Nunchuck control schemes? >:)

@Damien
It’s just a PCSX port, so they don’t have to write the whole emulation code from the start.

this is impressive. even a port like this is amazing considering the little likeness between PC and Wii CPUs. I can’t wait for the public beta to give this a try!

This is what I’ve been waiting for, maybe the Wii’s dvd drive can read my Einhander better than my ps2.

Does it run off the CD, or do you have to have the ISO file on the sd card? That’s what I want to know.

Their has been some exploits where you can run a burnt DVD with roms on it for the other emulators, I hope it can run PS1 games from the drive. That would be so cash.

That’s actually pretty cool. It would be even cooler if the guys behind that created a download channel for downloading the games straight to your wii, then it would be even better.

Lance: downloading CD sized games to the Wii’s 512mb flash memory? Not to mention that’s so brazenly illegal Nintendo would come down like a ton of bricks on it.
I can’t wait to see more… it’d be nice to play R-Type Delta and Castlevania SOTN again without having to fiddlearse around finding space for a dusty old PSX. I’m assuming booting disc images from SD and USB devices will be the main method, curious to know if booting original discs is even possible.
