Virtual Console Monday - SMB2, Ecco 2, and Dragon Spirit

This week the Wii Shop Channel is all about a healthy diet. Grab lots of vegetables, drink plenty of water and top it off with some (dragon) eggs. New releases this week:
Super Mario Bros. 2 - NES

In this sequel to Ecco the Dolphin, everyone’s favorite underwater hero must battle the Vortex Queen and her hive of drones. The wicked queen followed Ecco back to Earth from the future and quickly established her hive.
DRAGON SPIRIT - TG16
A fantastic world of adventure unfolds in this vertical-scrolling shooter. Sealed away by the gods long ago, the Evil Demon of Darkness, Zawell, seeks to rise again and unleash a new reign of evil. The brave warrior Amur races to rescue Princess Alicia from the demon’s wretched clutches.

I’ve been wondering a while about SMB2 - since in Japan it was Doki Doki Panic, are the Japanese consumers confused that they’ve moved characters from that game into the Super Mario universe? ( Shyguys, Birdo, etc )

what are you talking about, this game wasnt released in japan. its us getting SMB2. so they dont know that these characters are in the mario universe unless they imported it which means they most likely already know since they otherwise dont have a reason to import a game they think they already have.

I mean that characters that first appeared in this game are in later Super Mario games. (Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Strikers, etc)
