Treyarch: CoD 5 Wii uses CoD 4 engine

GoNintendo is reporting today first details on the Wii version of Call of Duty 5, as revealed in the latest issue of UK-based games™ magazine.
From CoD 5 developer Treyarch:
“…The Wii version is being developed here at Treyarch. It is a separate team from the next-gen team, but it is on-site. If you’re going to compare the (PS3/360) version and the Wii version side-by-side, then you’re going to find that it’s a much closer comparison than, I think, any other Wii game currently on the market.
“Yeah, the challenge with this one was ‘how do we make a cutting edge next-gen game work on the Wii?’. The answer is a lot of frickin’ smart engineers who’ve shipped Wii titles in the past. Getting the Call of Duty 4 engine on Wii was our first challenge - which we’ve managed to do and it looks great - but there are also content and design challenges…”
Treyarch is using the CoD 4 engine for all next-gen versions of CoD 5, including the Wii version. CoD5 also features multi-player co-op, a first for Call of Duty, “scarier” enemies and Zapper support for Wii.
Activision shipped a Wii version of CoD 3 alongside Wii in Nov. 2006, but did not bring last year’s critical and commercial smash CoD 4 to Wii. CoD 5 will release on all platforms, Wii included, later this year.

This is great news, if true. I really enjoyed CoD3 on Wii. I actually liked it better than CoD2 on 360. You really needed to tweak the settings on the controls, but once you got it right, it was very good. After putting a lot of time into CoD3 on Wii, I went back to CoD2 on 360 and it felt really old. I can’t wait for CoD5. Sure, WWII is pretty overdone, but who knows, lets see what happens.

It’s back to the WWII setting, though, so unless CoD5 gets rave reviews you can count me out.
FPS developer protip: COME UP WITH SOMETHING SLIGHTLY ORIGINAL!

This is not true. Not saying anything bad toward Infendo but i call this out as being fake. There is not way the wii could use that engine. It might have some of the basics for that engine but is it not the actual. When you think about the game engine its not one thing but it is made of many. For this game they will only use a few basic parts of the engine. In the end this is all advertising this post is advertising, but some dumb ass gamer kid is gonna see this and then see the game for sell and the first thing that they will remember is this post when buying the game. So infendo if you wanna stop being an ad for these huge dumb game companies stop posting these kinds of things and just post the GOOD NEWS.

Ben: There are two sources in the article. I wish I had the clout the conspire a fake quote and news posting with the entire Internet, but alas, I don’t.
We posted what they said. Period.

Could be interesting. Obviously it isn’t the exact same engine. it has to be scaled back to work on a single core processor and with the wiis pgu and memory limitations. But if what they’re saying is true, it’s is as much the same engine as it can be.

Ben, I agree, the post could have taken a more “doubtful” tone… I’m sure Treyarch really are using the COD4 engine, but with a lot of features turned off. The news post would be slightly more interesting if it made speculations like that for all to see…

@Ben
The CoD4 engine is very scalable. VERY. My 5 year old backup pc ran it beautifully (ok, minus a few effects here and there and less than stellar framerate), so I can certainly see a scaled back version for Wii running equally well.

its not infendos job to call treyarch liars unless we have something to call them out on.
i am sure they could scale the CoD4 engine back. missing a few features still can make it the CoD4 engine. not that i know what that means since i didnt play CoD4. Wii only here, soi am interested in what they will do with CoD5. sadly, i dont buy $50 games, so i hope the single player is good since i will probably miss the big multiplayer period of the games popularity.

Yea sorry i got outta line just saying what i think. This is not a bash at infendo becuase i look at the there website every day and i love it.

Protector one beat me to the punch. PC games are always scalable to run on a wider variety hardware. There’s absolutely no reason that CoD4 couldn’t have been released on the Wii.
Anyways, I’m glad to see those bastards are finally bringing back one of the greatest shooter series to the best FPS console on the planet.

I wish they wouldn’t waste development time on Zapper support.
I bought this major POS! It was designed by retards that have never shot a real gun.
If not for the included Zelda game, I would have not picked it up. Anyways, what a useless peripheral.
