Smash Bros. Brawl becomes lesser god (that can draw its own levels)

Monday, October 29th, 2007 at 10:48pm by Jack

Smas Bros level creatorPerhaps that subject line is a bit grandiose. The again, since when am I one not to exaggerate the machinations of Nintendo?

Today, or in the recent past, the Smash Bros. Dojo, in addition to revealing that we mere gamers would be able to play in levels that were DRAWN for us by some wild disembodied PictoChat hand, told us that online enabled Wii’s with Smash Bros in the ol’ blue slot would have access to random maps created by other wacky gamers. The mind boggled at the news, or at least mine did; my gray matter soaks up Nintendo news like a sponge. This is no secret. I also enjoy Boggle.

The palette is very Mario Paint in appearance, but that’s a good thing: it’s easy to navigate but screen shots show there are plenty of options (including stage music) that, in the words of the mysterious Smash Bros. Dojo sensei, promise an infinite number of stage creation combinations.

Regardless of all this new info however, Nintendo seems content to deliver a one-two punch this holiday season. Super Mario Galaxy will be the big holiday item, and Smash Bros Brawl will be the game everyone buys with their Xmas money and gift cards.

Even with simplistic tools that any level editor presents itself in a game; it can work well with Brawl.

That, or WiiFit, which should be coming out right after New Years. The perfect time to market the game.

Brawl truly is shaping up to be the greatest experience of this, or any, lifetime.

Next week’s update will show how the game generates its own electricity for the Wii, thus solving the global warming problem.

Next Month: We’ll uncover a leak that the disc is coated in a special substance that turns lead into gold.

Seriously though, is there anything else they could possibly do to make this game better than it is at this point?

@respsode - Apparently there is more in there, we still have what, just over 3 months before brawl. Sakurai is doing updates every weekday, with one megaton per week. So yeah, there are about 12 megatons left.

On the subject of the article, I love level editors. Tony Hawk 2 was in my rotation for years because of it, same with Timesplitters (where I made a duplicate Complex from Goldeneye, among other things) This feature has me geeked to make retro style levels in the hopes that Nintendo will see that I submit lets say Donkey Kong level 1-1, and post that bad boy for all to enjoy. I have already had about a dozen ideas, I love this feature, and I couldn’t be more excited for this game.

I imagine the Brawl stuff might tone it down a notch around the time when Galaxy launches, just to give that game everyone’s full and undivided attention. Then it will probably resume for the holiday and early 2008 season.

    Or not.
