Remember this 2006 Wii Drum Demo? That’s just a taste of MotionPlus

Monday, July 14th, 2008 at 8:34pm by Jack

I had almost forgotten this classic video of E3 2006 when this incredibly observant—and disruptive—little birdie that visits me from time to time pinged me with the link. This is how Nintendo will implement the MotionPlus accessory we wrote about this morning. 1:1 movement. A completely aware controller. Motion sensing. Waggle Plus. Wii Music. Given Nintendo’s strategy of bridge games and expanding gaming, a more advanced Wiimote also makes a lot of sense, and proves that the Wii will be around for at least five years or more—technological chops be damned. It might not be exact, but don’t be surprised if you see a similar video or even a laundry list of incredibly innovative games at tomorrow’s press conference. Then remember you read about it here first. [Thanks, Mal]

Haven’t heard anything new from Johnny Lee lately - wonder how much fun he’ll have with MotionPlus…

I am glad you brought this up because Wii Music was the first that jumped to mind when I saw this. I am sure Nintendo will use the new technology for all their games. But will third party devs take advantage? Maybe this is why we haven’t heard form games like Disaster: Day of Crisis and Red Steel 2?

I’m so stoked the Nintendo has chosen to “upgrade” the Wii remote. I mean, it works well as is, but think of the possibilities now!

I’m actually going to make an effort to watch Nintendo’s press conference live just to see what they have up their sleeves. I’m even going to get up early (a cardinal sin for me ;D).

Much like Chooch, me and several friends/forum goers pinned Motion Plus to be packed with Wii Music. I’ve been anticipating Wii Music since 2006, and this announcement reeked of Drum Simulator to me.

Oh, and post-Motion Plus world means we get legitimate Lightsabre games. Yeah, that means no more bullshit excuses LucasArts. I don’t care if you’re disbanding soon. Make a Lightsabre game, and you’d be out of financial trouble instantly.

Here’s hoping MotionPlus doesn’t go the way of Sega Genesis’ 32X

    Please…..

….let the word waggle die already.
