Wednesday, November 7th, 2007 at 9:29pm by David

multicolorrevolution225.jpgWii has been out for almost a year and it’s still only available in white. From its introduction at E3 2005, there have been several color variations shown by Nintendo, but nothing has been made available for our living rooms. This week, we want to know:

If you say “Yes”, tell us which colors you’d like to see or if you’re holding off on buying a Wii until there are new colors are available.

I wanna see a blue wii. I like blue. More important than hardware color customization, I wanna see wii menu customization. Imagine using the photo channel to make custom backgrounds and pick what music you want to play when you boot up the system!

    RED!!!

  3. pjlucky says...

I vote yes even though I’m happy with my white Wii.

I really don’t care unless there’s a hardware upgrade with the color change. It’s the same Wii with a different color. I’m fine with my white Wii.

I would love to see a black wii but if theres no hardware upgrade like a bigger harddrive I’m sticking with my white one. Totally agree gojiguy they should alow menu custimazation.

Well of course!! When this happens, Japan will go crazy.

    Red for me please

    Clear
like those cool gameboy colors that enabled to see the system’s guts

I want a black one so I can do what with it? That’s right, stick Decalgirl’s woodgrain skins all over it to turn it into an Atarwii.

And my current white one will make a nice addition to my parents’ den so I don’t have to keep packing up my own Wii and bringing it with me every time I visit them.

    Yes.
    Why not?
Black would look great beside my 360 elite.
Also a pink one for the ladies.
Aside from these 3 colours, that’s about it. Keep it simple, just like the Wii

I already secured a wii I’m just waiting for it to come through the mail I have lost a lot of sleep over waiting for it.

I need a pink Wii to match my DS- they just won’t play well together otherwise…

I’m happy with my white Wii, but I spray-painted mario on the side of it in blue anyways… (see the forums for photos)

The Wii was originally going to be released in black first (back when it was the Revolution), then other colours (such as white) later.

I don’t care about the console colors much, what I care about are the remote colors. I haven’t purchased another set of remotes because I’m holding out for blue (to match the disk slot) or black (oreo remotes!)

Once I get a 360 I’ll probably go the oreo route with that as well. And I might get that PS2 slim singstar bundle just for the white PS2 and controller…

It’s gonna happen eventually, I just wish they’d do it sooner. Not that the Wii needs it, but varied SKUs kindle the revenue generating flames.

Indigo, Black, and Silver, with macaroni colored Wii-motes if you know what I mean ;).

    The (S)Lime one!

I voted yes, but not for my own benefit. Regardless if they had launched the console with the entire rainbow and then some, I would have bought a white one anyway. It’s just so sleek and, dare I say, sexy. Plus, obviously, I already own a Wii (in white, of course), so I’d have no reason to go out and buy another one, especially for something as trivial as color options.

But, that’s my opinion. Somebody else might have wanted a black Wii to compliment their black PS2 and black Gamecube. Or maybe the white Wii doesn’t look good when plopped next to the red decor of the living room. Or perhaps generic mom would have preferred a pea-green Wii to go well with her 1970s Tupperware set.

Like I said, not me, necessarily, but somebody else.

Still, it was smart of Nintendo to launch with one color. It allowed their marketing campaign to be more unified and collective. The Wii logo displayed on every game case against its white bar matches the Wii itself. It just looks spiffy and clean.

Now Wiimotes, on the other hand…it wouldn’t have hurt to launch with some more color where that piece of hardware is concerned. But that’s another tale for another day.

Already got a Wii so it doesn’t matter.

I think that Nintendo should release white Wiis with some sort of graphic on the console. Much like the Final Fantasy DS’ in Japan. They have plenty of room to slap one on the side of the console.

  23. raindog469 says...

I have to think they’ll release Wiimotes in different colors first, since they’re more individual anyway, and then release new Wii colors based on whichever of those sells best.

  24. ejamer says...

A wider choice of color would be nice, but I wouldn’t buy another Wii system just because of different colors.

It’s too bad that there isn’t an easy way to change the color of a system without voiding the warranty. If Nintendo had designed the Wii with a removable case, it would allow official “skins” to be sold as accessories. That would give everyone - including early adopters - the opportunity to change colors as often as they wanted, while still keeping the number of system SKUs to a minimum. (Not that the Wii really needs more non-functional accessories… but I still like the idea.)

Question: If they release Wii systems in different colors, will the slot illumination change color as well?

  25. InvisibleMan says...

I prefer white, but if releasing it in new colors makes it easier to make and thus, more available in the stores, then go ahead: give me puky green Wii!

  26. burndive says...

What I want more than colored Wiis is colored Remotes.

  27. icarus says...

BLACK …i havent bought one because im waiting for a black version of the system….and maybe ill be waiting for years ….as how the situation looks…..and to ejamer…..i doubt that the loading blue light would change….they would have to change the whole controller lights….so i say no

  28. Liraco says...

Colored consoles might entice a few more people but I’d much rather have colored wiimotes.

  29. Amon says...

I want a blue/white Wii to match my favourite english soccer-team.
