Friday, August 10th, 2007 at 8:46am by David
Nintendo has kicked off a Month Of Metroid. You should probably have a new message from Nintendo on your Wii today letting you know that a special Metroid Prime 3 preview channel is available to download from the Wii Shop Channel. NintendoGal has put together a video of the experience for your viewing pleasure.
Other Metroid related events in August:
August 13 - Metroid released for Virtual Console
August 20th - Super Metroid released for Virtual Console
August 27th - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption released for Wii
Are you ready for a Month of Metroid?

No Metroid love for Europe

I knew I should’ve stayed home from work today……I can’t sleep at night waiting for this game…..

Wow, if Red Steel, as clumsy as it was, was a blast to play, i can´´t just imagine how this game will play.
Pure ownage!!
And by the way, that preview channel everyone were ranting for so long? There you go, out of nowhere. That´s the signature of Nintendo, and actually i like it a lot:D

I didn’t get a blinking light. I only found out about it by going to Infendo. I like the downloadable preview on Wii. I had no idea they would take this route. Makes me wonder what else Nintendo has up their sleeves that their not telling us. Downloadable demos next?
August is going to be awesome.

Did anyone read the editorial on IGN yesterday about how Nintendo is not hyping Metroid Prime 3 at all? Now we wake up to this.
I look forward to more direct marketing right to my Wii for future games.

I was kinda unimpressed with the videos, maybe I’m just not that much of a Metroid fan.

I love the way they are pushing this. Even if you aren’t into Metroid, you need to download this. Show Nintendo that we want previews (and maybe one day, demos) and we will eat up anything they put up for free!

No, I’m NOT ready!!
Damn internet provider, they got my broadband connection down!! I’m going to have to fix that PRONTO!!!

To Dan:
As a borderline obsessive Metroid fan, even I was a bit underwhelmed at the videos Nintendo chose to post. But don’t allow those to form your final impression of the game; there are videos floating around the Inter webs that are far superior.
And “not” a Metroid fan?! You NEED to be.
Still, though…the Metroid Preview channel is a stroke of freakin’ genius. This is the most direct advertising possible…every single online Wii in the country is getting an advertisement for Metroid in the form of a bright, flashing blue console.
Bravo, Nintendo.

For a split second I thought it was going to be a demo. And I was not overwhelmed by the videos by themself, but the direction of this preview is what has me excited. Brilliant move, and the fact that none of us saw it come, even better. I wonder if this has anything to do with firmware 3.0?…

Back @ Derek B.
Definitely the streaming media deludes the quality of the video. Also perhaps my excitement of Half Life 2 is overwhelming everything else….. that, and: Mario Galaxies, and Smash Bros, and Guitar Hero 3, and Guild Wars:EotN, and Crysis, and and and
(goodbye paycheck!)

This should be a demo, not some video…
August 11th, 2007 at 5:17 am
I just watched that trailer on youtube (we didn’t get it cause we’re in lowly it-doesn’t-matter-if-we’re-last europe) but that trailer is so AWSOME, seriously. I want this game so badly now…
Also, how do i rearrange my channels like that, so that all my VC games are on the second page, I have no idea how to do that on my european wii….
August 14th, 2007 at 3:49 am
Us here in Europe are not getting WiiWare or the MP3 videos. How come??? We had the same 2 system updates… I just don’t get it. There absolutely no information about it in the Wii Europe site, and we’re left reading about it from American Wii owners. This is just bad, Nintendo. Is it not enough that we have to wait months to get the same releases as in the US? Does anyone know WHY this is??
August 14th, 2007 at 9:12 am
@ Melissa: For Europe they have to translate all text to french, spanish, german and italian which could take a while. I hope they don’t have to translate all the voices as well.
On the other hand, most european releases are better than the american ones. For example the PAL version of Metroid Prime 1 was way better than the NTSC:
* Graphic overhaul
* Bugfixes
* Narration
* Samus’s reflection visible in reflective surfaces.
* Complete storyline clean-up.
* Uses 3 Memory Card Blocks instead of 1 Memory Card Block. This has been done to speed up saving, as less compression is used.
and more… (Source: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/file/447244/29740 )
So, patience, the channel will probably be released in october in Europe when the game is supposed to come out.
