Nintendo Wii NASCAR debut in August

From a Nintendo press release:
Nintendo’s record-selling Wii video game system takes video gaming to a whole new level with a partnership with Roush Fenway Racing and NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Greg Biffle. Biffle will debut the Wii-themed Ford Fusion at Watkins Glen in August and then provide an encore performance at Dover’s Monster Mile in September. Nintendo’s partnership with Roush Fenway Racing is the company’s first endeavor with NASCAR and it is excited about the possibilities it brings.
Looks cool, but I prefer the SmartCar from the Wii TV commercials. Any NASCAR fans out there in InfendoLand?

The car does look pretty cool, but I am not a Nascar fan. Let me refer you to this shirt.

the reason nascar runs in a circle is because all the drivers are drunk and passed out leaning with the steering wheel in one direction.

I think you’d all be surprised at the popularity of NASCAR. I’m not a fan, but I’m not enough of a fool to mess with one of the most popular “sports” in the U.S.
Oh wait, yes I am: NASCAR and WWE combine to form red neck “supersport”

The good question is, where can I find this?

The linked NASCAR/WWE article is funny… but not ha-ha funny.
I’m a NASCAR fan… a software engineer, blue-state urbanite, Nintendo fanboy NASCAR fan. I think a lot of people that display hatred towards NASCAR have never made any effort to enjoy it they just don’t want to be associated with the stereotypical fan. That stereotype isn’t entirely undeserved but I find it interesting that NFL or Premiere League fans get a pass for their bad behavior.
The “driving in circles” responses are predictable and predictably ignorant. The Wii car is debuting on a road course, not an oval.

I am a huge NASCAR fan. The sterotypical fan is still there and will always be there, but they have been joined by a huge following of middle and upperclass fans that the money has brought in. (Think race purses with 2 commas.)
My big response to this is “Where the heck is the Wii NASCAR game!!!” I have GCN NASCAR games and I will be getting NASCAR08 for the 360.
Wii is on NASCAR but NASCAR is not on Wii?

i went to my 2nd nascar race a couple weeks ago at the louden N.H. speedway, and its acutally fun. its totally diffrent being there than watching on tv. but its kinda hard for a gamer to be there, theres alot of walking around and theres a big bright thing in the sky that burns my pale skin over time! but its worth it seeing dem purrdy cars going around crashing into each other!

Nascar is borrrrrrrriiiiiiingggggg yes they may have a couple of road courses but the fact is that most of the races are run in ovals. Now Formula 1 or GT (Le Mans)and Rallying that’s real racing my Nascar Lovers. Sorry but when you only turn left all the time I don’t see the fun in that.

Nascar is a bigger event than the NFL, MLB and theres more money involve on this event, just to prepare the show is enough , advertisers pay top dollars just for inbetween seconds of tv air time , if I’m not wrong Nascar gets more attendence and more tv viewers than the NFL and MLB does .
Back on topic, I thought it was a Nascar race game for the Wii before I read the artical …

Rallying is pretty much the definition of boring. This is coming from somebody who has two WRC models on his desk and a WRX in the parking lot. The cars are cool, the drivers are great but it’s not racing. Racing would have to involve two cars battling for position. Rallying is time trials. I think about 80% of the people who claim to be WRC fans don’t actually watch it they just like the idea of it.
F1 is OK but there are very few tracks that produce good racing. Montreal is a fun race, I usually tune in for that one.
GT racing is fun especially when they run multiple classes on track at the same time. It’s fun to watch the faster cars set up passes of the slower classes. It’s not something I’d ever watch from flag-to-flag though. Pretty early in the race the running order is settled barring mechanical failures.
NASCAR has its flaws but IMO it’s an easier series to be a fan of than any of the others. It may be primarily ovals but I’d argue that it still has a larger variety of tracks than other series. Bristol and Daytona are more different than Monaco and Montreal IMO. The schedule is a pretty underrated aspect of the success of the NFL and NASCAR too. Both have the majority of their events on Sunday afternoon which makes it easy for it to be part of your weekend routine.
It’s also the only one that broadcasts every race in HD that I’m aware of. The Indy F1 race was in 480 widescreen and the Montreal race was 480 4:3. Pretty sad for a series that is considered the technological leader. When I watch a NASCAR race I have a nice HD picture, on board telemetry, stats and in-car audio on my laptop. If I switched to direct TV I could get a dedicated on-board camera channel too.

Love the Wii and the NNC too. Can’t wait to see the Nascar game coming to Wii. I heard it’s coming so I’ve got my money set aside to buy this one. I use to knock it. Watched it once during a Bristol race and all the speed and bumping got me hooked. Can’t get enough of it. And for the poster who said it’s bigger than NFL and MLB, you are right. Those events draw a crowd that’s enourmous. A nascar event turns a small area into a city. More people in the stands than the 50K in my home town. Now THAT’S a crowd. And commercials for the events are way funnier than that last several years of superbowl. If it wasn’t for Bud Light, the superbowl commercials would be no better than the crap during the news. I’d be way happier buying a game for a sport that shows honor and sportsmanship, than some other sport game based on a bunch of whining million dollar athletes willing to strike for anything instead of staying loyal to the fans.
Infendo, you have fans of both worlds here.
