Interplay Cashing in on the VC

According to the press release from yesterday we learned that Earthworm Jim and a few of the other Classic good Interplay titles that were heading to the Virtual Console. The interesting part of the article was that they were going to release the Sega Genesis versions.
I personally feel that Earthworm Jim on the Super Nintendo was superior in every way to the Genesis versions of the game. So why would they do this and not release the SNES versions. It’s obviously not a matter of cost since they both cost the same on the Virtual Console at 800 points a pop. I mean even if they did release the Super Nintendo version later would you buy the same game twice? Even if it was for the superior version?

The SNES version had slightly more color and a couple more sound channels, but the Genesis version had a whole extra friggin’ level. No contest.

I really didn’t think the level “intestinal Distress” was actually that great a level anyway. If anyone is curious about the level being mentioned you can see it here.

I already have done that to many games that had different console version for my VC, so in this case I would do that without any hesitation. I mean, I have freaking Ghost’n Ghouls for NES, SNES and Genesis and all the Street Fighters for VC. I don’t even play that much with those games. Also, all the different versions of Wonder Boy has been dl’ed. I could list’em al, but I won’t. I think I’ve made my point clear enough.

I was a SNES guy way moreso than a Genesis guy, and from my experiences I always preferred the SNES versions rather than the Genesis version. The Street Fighter 2 games, Turtles in Time over Hyperstone Heist (even though technically different games, they were extremely similiar). If the same game for the SNES and Genesis were both available on the VC, I’d choose the SNES version and the chances are extremely slim I’d get both versions.

TenNapel prefers the Genesis version because, while the SNES version had better color and sharper images, the Genesis version had smoother animation. Being an animator, he naturally goes with that one:

Maybe they’re just going with the genesis because you won’t need a classic controller or wavebird? I always found it easier to sit down and play a game with just the wiimote.

Don’t kill me, but I have never played, watched, or cared for Earthworm Jim. Just not a appealing character.

jake, yet you feel compelled to comment on that fact. maybe you care more than you think, or do you just gayly anticipate the beating you will get with that comment? lol
