Influential game editor endorses GTA IV on Wii
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 at 11:48am by Blake
Says 2K/Rockstar on the possibility of Grand Theft Auto 4 on Wii: “Right now I think, no disrespect meant for the platform, but there are other titles better suited for the Wii.”
Says Brian Crecente of Kotaku: “[Rockstar] didn’t have any problem bringing Manhunt to the Wii, so why not Grand Theft Auto. I know Manhunt was a PS2 game, but I can’t imagine that they can’t rework GTA4 for the Wii somehow. I suspect they didn’t expect the platform to be as popular as it has been. Come on Rockstar, I want to use my Remote to beat hookers.”

I dunno, ps2->wii is a lot different than 360/ps3->wii. Personally I’ve always been very unimpressed by the entire gta franchise, but I’d much rather play a game made for with the wii in mind than a gutted 360 game.

Ok, so how about a n y GTA games on the Wii? An absolute loyal Nintendo platform fan only has access to GTA 1&2 on Gameboy. So then they’ve missed out on GTA III. Perhaps it’ll come out in 2010 if ever. Oh well.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to download Tekken on Virtual Console . . .

No thanks. Even if I wanted to play GTAIV in the first place, why would I want to play a downscaled port of a game that would run much smoother on the systems it was originally developed for?

It wouldn’t have to run crappily. All they’d have to do is port the San Andreas engine to the Wii then rebuild the world, objects, animations and etc.. It’d be like they’re working on the game twice, at best we’d just get an uglier game with bonus discs that contain GTA III, VC, SA, LCS, and VCS (yea, I wish we’d get all those bonuses, but more than likely we won’t).

love gta but for the wii………….shame

Rockstar stepped in it. Obviously there will be no GTA4 for Wii. It would be, as mentioned above, a scaled down port of a game designed specifically for another system. Doesn’t mean we can’t use our imaginations however. And Rockstar is definitely kicking themselves for not taking advantage of the Wii. Money talks. Still no Wii GTA4 though.

We don’t need trash on the Wii anyway.

To me, GTA is totally overrated, so i don´t really care. This and Halo are two franchises i can gladly live on without playing.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Wii got some original GTA game, or at least ports of the PSP games.
Which is not to say that I would buy a port of a PSP game.

I think sakuragi just about summed up my feelings on the subject: I can VERY easily live without it.

i think gta games are way better on pc. ill just wait for that.

first, i dont like any of rockstars games.
but we do need more of those types of games on the system. The Godfather and i forget the other game that came out earlier in the year both proved that those types of sandbox games can set themselves apart on wii and that graphics arent everything.
GTA4 would still look good on the wii because they looked fine on ps2 and with 3 times the power they can be smoother, higher detail, larger draw distance and cities.
theres no way you wouldnt enjoy gta4 on wii unless you are a graphics whore.
lots of games are built for one platform then scaled down for another and still are enjoyed by many, its not a new phenomenon. gta4 on the other systems does nothing gameplay wise that couldnt be done on wii and thats where it matters.
as far as why you might choose wii version over others.
1) dont have other systems. how dare you say i have to own every system or i am not a gamer. how about you by me those systems. i could use some money since i have a life with bills and other hobbies also, and games arent everything. i also wont be your typical american and go broke or run up credit cards just to play games.
2) the feeling of doing the actual act is already explains by many satisfied players in The Godfather reviews, both user and professional. its quite different then playing on any other system and for some people worth any downgrade in visuals.
3) a cheaper game. wii games are $10 less, which is nice for a person on a budget. holds the potential for a faster drop to $30, which at least for me is my usual buy in price. and even for games that i buy at $50, that $10 savings adds up seeing as i own 5 games already and my roommate owns 5, thats $100 saved.

Wii should totally get a GTA game, lower res graphics or not, it’s just a great control setup and I much prefer it. Why should the regular gamers get penalized to maintain the ‘family’ image. Let the Wii be the platform of the people that works for all gamer sets.
December 20th, 2007 at 11:48 am
Would you agree Blake? I certainly hold the same opinion as you that the Godfather game on the Wii was the best version cuz it felt so great with the motion controls so the GTA formula obviously works well.
Maybe it’d be better if the Wii got an original GTA or at the very least gets a port that isn’t rushed to cash in *cough*Table Tennis*cough*.

Maybe you’ll find some other ports to help you.
Maybe Bioshock.
THAT WAS A JOKE. HAHA. FAT CHANCE.
(yay! gta iv minigames!)
wii ports ftl- let’s see some real content

If Godfather on Wii could do it, then I don’t see why a GTA game isn’t possible. It doesn’t even have to be IV.
Regardless though, I’d still rather have my detective game as oppose to another GTA/GTA-esque crime syndicate game. Seriously, why is it that just about every free roaming city scape-based games is always some crime based scenario. Can’t I just have, say, a scenario where I’m a detective, I knock on a suspect’s door, I hear him crash through the window and I break down the door to give chase. In a free roaming city scape environment I should be chasing him through fire escapes, up through stairwells, over roof tops, alleyways, moving trains, trolleys, city cabs, and what not. And it’ll end in a shoot out with him dying or wounded, then I’d be looking through his apartment for clues or interrogating him. If he’s wounded bad enough I’ll be speedily bring him to a hospital (where he might die or not) and it’ll be that open from a gameplay standpoint.

If I want a game like this I’ll just go for The Godfather. Personally I’d much rather see Dead Rising come to the Wii. That would be fantastic.

And god dammit I want Rez to come out on the Virtual Console. It never will.
