Infendo wishlists for Guitar Hero IV
Thursday, February 28th, 2008 at 4:02pm by Derek
Prediction? Guitar Hero IV will be one of the biggest Wii games of 2008. Call me crazy, but I have a hunch.
Activision hasn’t specified a release date, and despite the occasional rumor, we haven’t heard any definitive word on possible song inclusions. But we’ve played through each track on Guitar Hero III about a thousand times, and since speculation always makes the wait more fun, what better time than now to discuss which songs we’d like to see in the next Guitar Hero?
Join us at the Infendo roundtable and listen in as we elders deliberate on the ten songs we’d like to see added to Guitar Hero IV, complete with links for YouTube samples of each song for your enjoyment.
Blake says:
10. The Cure - High
09. Jenny Lewis - The Big Guns
08. Phoenix - Rally
07. Ben Kweller - Magic
06. All-American Rejects - Move Along
05. Nirvana - In Bloom
04. The Beatles - You Can’t Do That
03. Blue Öyster Cult - (Don’t Fear) The Reaper
02. Mute Math - Typical
01. Van Halen - Panama
“The Beast and Dragon Adored” by Spoon and Foo Fighter’s “Everlong” just missed the cut. Guitar Hero can stay relevant in a post Rock Band world provided the former ends up being the better rock DJ, which I think they have been so far at least in terms of riff-age. Face-melting riffs, FTW! And I forgot, Lagwagon and Blink would be appreciated as well.
Kyle says:
10. Mastodon - Blood and Thunder
09. Tokyo Police Club - Nature of the Experiment
08. KMFDM - Light
07. Slayer - Angel of Death
06. Hum - Stars
05. Pantera - 5 Minutes Alone
04. Joy Division - Disorder
03. Prince - Kiss
02. Refused - New Noise
01. The Smiths - This Charming Man
“This Charming Man” could be considered the antithesis of Dragonforce’s “Through the Fire and the Flames.” It’s a complicated riff without all the aggression, something the game could use.
Jack says:
10. Toto - Africa
09. Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
08. Bad Religion - 21st Century (Digital Boy)
07. Soundgarden - Spoonman
06. Under the Influence of Giants - Mama’s Room
05. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Hard to Concentrate
04. Alice in Chains - Heaven Beside You
03. Pearl Jam - Alive
02. Boston - Peace of Mind
01. Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
I donned my plaid flannel button down shirt and grew my hair out when I wrote this list. While it might read like a cross between a 90’s high school locker door and a napkin at your local karaoke bar, this is the stuff I grew up with. Many a cold night were spent out near the high tension wires with this music blaring, and many a SNES game or ten were defeated whilst Eddie Vedder sang a sad tale of step fathers or elderly women, behind counters, in small towns. Hell, half of this stuff might make for terrible pseudo-guitar playin’ fun, but it’s still great music! Yes, even Toto.
David says:
10. They Might Be Giants - Don’t Let’s Start
09. The Cars - My Best Friend’s Girl
08. The Monkees - Pleasant Valley Sunday
07. Maximo Park - Girls Who Play Guitars
06. Modest Mouse - Missed the Boat
05. The Shins - Turn On Me
04. The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldier (w/ Jack White boss battle)
03. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Runnin’ Down a Dream
02. Cake - Short Skirt, Long Jacket
01. Nitro - Freight Train
I was also going to say, “Losing My Religion” by REM, but they should just save it for Mandolin Hero.
Derek says:
10. In Flames - Moonshield
09. At The Gates - Blinded By Fear
08. Symphony X - Inferno (Unleash The Fire)
07. Nevermore - The River Dragon Has Come
06. Children of Bodom - Sixpounder
05. Judas Priest - Painkiller
04. Anthrax - Caught in a Mosh
03. Testament - Practice What You Preach
02. Overkill - Elimination
01. Megadeth - Washington is Next
Activision, I beg you. Could we cut back on the goofy pop songs and long-winded anthems for the next Guitar Hero? Few genres of music emphasize technical, furious guitar playing more than (true) heavy metal, and GH4 needs more of it. Especially from Megadeth; frontman Dave Mustaine is a masterful riff architect and guitarist of the highest order. It’s a shame his stuff was missing from GH3.
Agree with some of us? All of us? None of us? Let the Socratic debate begin in the comments, and be sure to post your GH4 wishes!

You guys do know that Guitar Hero Aerosmith comes out in July 2008, which means there probably won’t be another Guitar Hero until early 09 (at the soonest).
Hmmm… some random rock (I’m not going into Indie Rock or Pop, or really obscure stuff) songs that I think would be a ton of fun on Guitar Hero are:
Nothing Else Matters (Metallica)
Mr. Speed (Kiss)
The Sharpest Lives (MCR)
If You Want Blood or Highway to Hell or Back in Black (AC/DC)
Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin)
Paper Sun or Rock Brigade (Def Leppard)
We’re Not Gonna Take It (Twisted Sister)
February 28th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Oh I forgot to add basically anything by The Beatles would be a welcome addition. Preferably Drive My Car or Think For Yourself (those aren’t my favorite Beatles songs, I just think they’d work the best in GH)

I was hoping for this to be more of a game wishlist (like say not blocking star-power collection when star power is activated or also clearing lower levels of gameplay if you begin on a higher tier), but maybe that is just me seeing enough song wishlists over at scorehero.
Anyways, I didn’t knew Blake listens to Lagwagon.
Thumbs up to all lists.
You can see what my ideal GH4 list would look like here:

And just to make a little bit more of this, my bonus songs would include:
Lagwagon - Violins
Optimus Rhyme - MC Chipmunk
Primus - Jerry was a Race Car Driver
Jonathan Coulton - Code Monkey
The Dead Kings - We’re the Business
The All-American Rejects - Swing Swing
Social Distortion - Ball and Chain
and a few other bands no one has ever heard of in the states ^^
February 28th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Turbonegro – The Age Of Pamparius
Anything by the Aquabats and Reel Big Fish
Knowledge - Operation Ivy
BYOB - System of a Down
I just want me some ska.
February 28th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
1. Vampire Weekend — A-Punk
2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs — Art Star
3. Coconut Records — Minding My Own Business
4. Elliott Smith — LA
5. Belle and Sebastian — Lazy Line Painter Jane
6. Built To Spill — Big Dipper
7. Death Cab For Cutie — 405
8. Rilo Kiley — Silver Lining
9. Les Savy Fav — Scotchguard the Credit Card
10. The National — Mr. November
Also, Kyle you’re totally right about This Charming Man

There are plenty of songs that would be great but I would love to see some Green Day songs… “Time of your life”, “Jesus of Suburbia” etc
February 28th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Good call on “This Charming Man”, Kyle. I’d love to see it, but I think GH has to appeal to the hardcore players to keep alive vs Rock Band, and those hardcores aren’t going to tolerate Morrissey’s proto-emo swoon. However, I would definitely love to see my friends try and imitate him, so I’m going to put a request in on RockBand.com for this song.
February 28th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dany California
Dream Theater - Overture 1928 & Strange Deja Vu
System of a Down - Boom
February 28th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Hmmmm….hadn’t given it much thought.
We are the Champions - Queen
Crimson & Clove - Jimmy Eat World
Beer - Reel Big Fish
Every Breath You Take - The Police
No Rain - Blind Melon
Who knows what else…
February 28th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Stranglehold - Ted Nugent
The Nuge FTW!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Vertol - At first I scoffed at your proposal of “Art Star”… But the more I thought about it the more I realized that could be really fun.

MINUS THE BEAR.
ANYTHING.
BY.
MINUS.
THE.
BEAR.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:48 am
And having some music by Mystic Country Vaudeville Steampunk band “The Cassettes” would be grand. I don’t really know how the theremin solo would work, though…
…maybe that should wait for Theremin Hero…
February 29th, 2008 at 3:38 am
I was very afraid that nobody would propose Dream Theater, as I think their songs are pretty spot on for a Guitar Hero game, on the guitar side but also on the bass side.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:53 am
I’d like to be able to select the number of frets independently of the difficulty level.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:36 am
ACDC… Why must you continue to deny lending thy riffs to guitar hero?
February 29th, 2008 at 11:36 am
You guys forgot “pay to play” added as a way to give downloadbale content to fans and more money to Activision. I doubt they’ll enable GH3 to do the same as getting every previous GH3 owner to buy a new game and THEN charge for expansions is smarter (for them).
February 29th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Oh man, Derek, if you want TRUE METAL, you need to list Manowar. And also Immortal ’cause Manowar said they were TRUE.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
neko: I’m not sure the world is ready for Manowar in Guitar Hero. There’d be massive global devastation.
And surprisingly, I’m not a big Immortal fan. Black metal just doesn’t do it for me. I’m more of a thrash, melodic death/doom, old-school kind of guy. Most black metal sounds like it was recorded on an answering machine in some Norwegian forest, and if it doesn’t, it’s usually painfully derivative.
Nonetheless, horns up to true metal.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
@Ben: Rock the 80’s came out summer last year, and GHIII still came out later in the year. I’m betting that each year there’s going to be an expansion between the numbered releases.
Here’s my song list:
1. Behold… The Arctopus - Exospacial Psionic Aura
2. AC/DC - Thunderstruck
3. Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
4. Jimi Hendrix - Fire
5. Electric Wizard - Funeralopolis
6. Immortal - Blashyrkh (Mighty Ravendark)
7. Cryptopsy - Crown of Horns
8. Tencious D - Tribute
9. Jethro Tull - Aqualung
10. Bathory - One Eyed Old Man
February 29th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
“Most black metal sounds like it was recorded on an answering machine in some Norwegian forest”
I agree that sometimes if the production is so bad you can’t hear anything it stinks, but most of the time it adds a nice atmosphere and sound quality that just doesn’t sound as good with clean production.
“..and if it doesn’t, it’s usually painfully derivative.”
Welcome to black metal.
I know it will never happen but I’d love for a Sunn O))) track in GH. Multiplayer for that song would rock. Instead of guitar and bass you’d get to choose who was Greg or Stephen, and don your robes.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Sunn O)))!!!!!
maybe some Boris or High on Fire? Or Early Man?
February 29th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
For God´s sake , I only wish 1 song ( or many more I guess :P) of Face To Face. ” Disconnected” could be perfect
February 29th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
This Charming Man is available for Frets on Fire.
March 1st, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Dark Moor, Pagan’s Mind, or At Vance.
any of their song would be awesome!
LONG LIVE POWER METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 2nd, 2008 at 1:22 am
@vertol:
Mr. November by The National? Of all songs you pick that one?
At least pick something a little more guitar-y. Like “Available” or “Abel”.
March 2nd, 2008 at 4:28 am
Arctic Monkeys “Teddy Picker” or “Brainstorm”
March 15th, 2008 at 2:57 am
How about being able to finally create our own characters?!?!?!?!?!?!?! In my opinion, that is the one thing sorely missing from the Guitar Hero franchise.
