Guitar Hero III promises to rock your face off
Thursday, August 30th, 2007 at 1:43pm by Blake![]()
IGN has the first hands-on impression of Guitar Hero III on Wii. Though I’m pumped for Rock Band (not so pumped for its rumored $200 price tag), this $90 original alternative on Wii sounds very appealing.
“The Wii version will be the only Guitar Hero game that will feature force-feedback thanks to the rumble in the controller, and believe it or not, in our hands-on, you really could feel the guitar shake to the beat when you rocked out with Star Power, as well as ‘buzz’ when crazy effects are going on in the game,” writes IGN. “We wouldn’t be surprised to see the Wii version top the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions in sales when they all ship this fall.”
The game supports 480p widescreen, online multiplayer (downloadable tracks still unknown), and of course, the audio advantages of having a Wiimote strapped to your guitar for off-screen pick sounds. Rock on.
Guitar Hero III hits Wii on October 29. Who’s buyin’ this?

Never been too interested in guitar hero, possibly cause before, it wasn’t on Wii… count me in.

Sold. I already knew I would get the Wii version and not the X360 version, but this information makes it an even easier choice.

I wasn’t even thinking about it, but after looking at that Wii-remote-equipped guitar… I’m exited!
August 30th, 2007 at 2:24 pm
Me! It’s shaping up to be better than the other versions
August 30th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
already have it preordered.

I am. I don’t know how song downloads would work maybe if they came in the dvd and you just unlock them it would work…

90$!!!
I’m sorry but I hate these money hungry mother *******. I still cant believe that the first Guitar Hero costs more now than when it first came out!! I’m sorry, it’s just major bs to me.

The wii remote shakes the whole guitar? Good to know we can always turn off rumble if that feature is annoying. I’m definitely getting this game BTW.

OK quick question. I’ve never played GH, but have always been remotely interested in trying it.
However I am left-handed. They don’t make left-handed GH guitars and since the strap, whammy bar, etc is all upside-down…what is a south-paw to do?
Any lefties play this game on PS2, 360 that have no issue with it?
August 30th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
^in previous versions of the game, there was an option to reverse the colors on the scroll and hold the guitar upside-down. Maybe with GH3, it will sense that it’s upside down and automatically switch it.
Left-handers can play too.

I’m excited! I’ve played at friend’s houses, but I’ve never owned a PS2 or a 360, so this is my first chance to get it!
Reversing the controls works fine for us lefties, but it sucks holding it upside down.

Cory:
It costs $90 a few reasons:
1. It’s a bundle (game + accessory)
2. They costs money to develop and produce.
3. The developers need to get paid, as well as any place that sells it.
I think the cost is pretty reasonable, considering all these things. Especially the fact that it’s $10 less for the Wii version than it is the 360 and PS3 ones.
And I’m pretty sure that the first Guitar Hero (game alone) now sells for around $40 new, when it sold $50 new at the time it was released.

well- & i know everyone hates this view- but I only play that thing in short bursts… then I go look up the tabs. Still, the wii’s ‘guitar’ is probably the coolest one I’ve seen.

$90 …. the reason I still work part time at Best Buy
Employee discount may take off $10 or so… but SO worth it… GH2 for 360 is amazing and this looks like it could top it.
Nintendo we’re begging you now, we NEED a HDD… I don’t care if it’s 1st party or just hooking up any old external, but games like this demand to be updated with new songs.

I’m Guitar Heroed at this point.

I’m in, but I’m going to need a new source of income since the grass won’t need mowing soon. :/

Looking forward to this, though I’m also in the “wish they had a game you could play with a real guitar” camp.
August 30th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
blah! Tired of these kind of games. DDR is good enough. Now if technology ever allows you to perfectly import your own songs… then I’m in.
I’m tired of the music selections in these games.

@ raindog-
yeah man, software that helps you play real guitar shouldn’t even be too hard to develop. Just something you plug an electric guitar into, right? Connect that thing to the TV, and presto! You have Guitar Hero: Rocking the Real Thing. And they can display the music in tabs for newbs (me!) and in notes for those who want to learn. Honestly, I think it’s a million dollar idea. Now I just need startup money….
This could be to guitars what Harry Potter is to books

Back to the lefty issue though….if I may.
For obvious reasons the frets aren’t really the issue. It’s the position of the strap and whammy bar. Unless they make it so you can assemble a left handed guitar, I’ll probably continue to sit this title out.

One of the only PS2 games I really play is Guitar Hero II. I am ALL for a Wii version. I just wish they’d make a combined Guitar Hero I and II disc for the Wii…
BUT I know they could just sell the tracks online and make more of a bundle instead.
