This is very interesting. It almost shows that the sales in the first four months don’t really do well in predicting how well a console will. For instance, the PS2 was beaten by both the Cube and the Xbox, but we all know how that turned out. It’s also noteworthy that despite the horrible PS3 buzz, and them being easily accessable early on, it still did better than the 360 in the early months. Very interesting stuff indeed.
The PS2, Xbox 360, and Wii were all at least equally difficult to find on launch. Wii possibly more so for the duration, although I remember 360 being out in November and then no restocking for a while afterwards.
Pretty much all the consoles sold their whole existing inventory in the first four months, so what you are looking at is consoles shipped, not just consoles sold.
