Fire Emblem on Wii - great, but only for fans?

Thursday, November 8th, 2007 at 9:52pm by David

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn came out for Wii this week with very little fanfare. Metacritic shows an average score of 83, ranging from Nintendo Power’s 95 to Game Informer’s 70. A common thread in many reviews for the title say that it is a great game, but will mostly appeal to existing fans of the series. Having played the GameCube edition, I’m pretty excited to check out this new installment, but not until I’ve played about 15 other games that are out this holiday season.

Anyone out there pick up this game? Let Infendo Nation know what you think of it in comments!

Path of Radiance was my first Fire Emblem experience. I loved it. It’s tough and requires a great deal of strategy. I’m looking forward to this, but I think I’ll pick up Mario Galaxy, Trauma Cetntre and maybe Medal of Honor (given the great IGN review) first.

I already picked it up, and I’m loving it so far. PoR was my introduction to FE, but afterward I played the three GBA games (gotta love that people created a translation for FE6, the one with Roy). I don’t see why it’s for fans of the series only. PoR sucked me in; I see no reason why Radiant Dawn couldn’t be a good intro to the series for newcomers.

i think i’ll wait for the next iteration when they take the time to make the game for the Wii from the ground up. I might pick up the fire emblem for the game cube instead of this one since its cheaper and there isn’t much improvement.

I will keep it in mind in a couple of months when I dive the bargain bin. But otherwise, I am interested, but have higher priority games to take care of.

I’m a big fan of the games, having played both the Game Boy Advanced games, Path of Radiance and even a couple of emulated copies of the Japanese Super Famicom games. I think Radiant Dawn looks completely awesome, although I’m a little disappointed that it doesn’t use IR functionality. Then again, I didn’t really care for the touch screen controls on the Advance War games, so this may have been the same case. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, I believe they say. Still, I kind of wish the option were there.

On the visual side of things, although it clearly could have run on Gamecube hardware, I think it looks like a good step forward from Path of Radiance. A lot of people seem to disagree, however. But, in my eyes, the animations and little details all seem to have improved. I can’t wait to play it.

I bought it day one and love it. It’s similar to Path of Radiance, but every aspect of the game has been improved upon. The battle scenes are better, the maps are more detailed and widescreen mode is a welcome addition. The cut scenes use some of the best cel-shading I’ve ever seen. This game definitely has a hardcore level of challenge.

If you’re into strategy RPGs, this is a must. In order to get the most out of it, play Path of Radiance first.

Reading all these comments, it really shows why Nintendo made a good move holding smash bros brawl back till spring. Fire Emblem games are awesome, but people are holding off from getting it cause they have better games to buy. If smash bros was released at the previous date, what would it be to get nocked off peoples list next? zack and wiki? medal of honor? In my opinion, they should have waited a while to release a few more of the games. a lot of good games spread throughout the year means
    A) no droughts and
    B) people always have the money in their wallet at release date.

Yeah, I agree: this one will be in my “some day” list… Until I finish some of the 20 games I already have waiting!

I agree with you, Jamie. I’m one of those wacky people who breathed a sigh of relief when Smash Bros was delayed. I mean, how the hell did Nintendo expect me to buy all of those awesome games at once? The Smash Bros delay allows the other games to shine while potentially adding some extra polish to one of 2008’s biggest games. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Is there a PAL version of this game?
The Wii is my first console so I’ve never played the first Fire Emblem. Will I still enjoy it? (I love strategy RPG, especially fatasy based)

  14. Amon says...

There will be a PAL version and I think it will soon be launched, too and I think you will enjoy it.

I’m a series fan so I guess I’ll pick this one up. I still havent played enough of Path of Radiance to decide though.
