Disaster commercial campaign stars…YOU

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 at 1:04pm by Derek

Nintendo has added the first commercials for Disaster: Day of Crisis to Japan’s Nintendo Channel. Naturally, they’ve ended up on YouTube, and we’ve got the video above. Nintendo Wii Fanboy has the scoop on the Japanese text persistent throughout the video:

The ads are built around the theme of the game as an action movie with you as the protagonist. Each starts with “Movie star on Wii” and keeps a persistent arrow with the word anata (Japanese for you) pointed at the onscreen Raymond Bryce. The commercials end with the tagline “Starring: You.” A pretty exciting way to start your fake acting career!

Disaster launches Sept. 25 in Japan and Oct. 24 in Europe. There has been no word on a North American release.

    WANT!

Also, I can’t believe he says the “s-word” when he’s starting that car. We’ll have to see how his character pans out before I pass judgment on that being lame gratuitous use of language to appease “hard core” gamers.

Love that Nintendo is treating this with as much attention. /sarcasm

Sad this is the first VIDEO footage of the game since….2006. Sigh

is this going to play like dragon lair- a lot of different events thrown at you- or like gta -you have a skill set in a big world with lots of options?

i was expecting more gta style, but these ads make me think more dragon lair…

I’m still skeptical about this game being that good. I don’t trust it going from being very unknown to suddenly it’s about in a few weeks. I hope I’m wrong because I’ve liked the sound of the game from day 1.

deepthought: From everything I’m hearing, this game is NOTHING like Grand Theft Auto. I dunno about you, but that makes me very optimistic.

There is the leveling up of skills. The game is divided into 23 stages.
It is in no way open world.

I for one hope this game turns out pretty well. I’m slightly worried about all the random actions that seem to befall you but maybe they’ll be handled like in RE4 with a set number of actions that you’ll have to react with on the fly to save yourself (hopefully not resulting in an immediate game over like RE4 but with a chance to pick up the slack and still save yourself albeit hurt.)

Anyway, this game’s comming on so fast I just hope they promote it properly. The Japanese ads seem pretty cool but they’ll need something a bit stronger to sell here.

I’m looking forward to this game. hopefully Nintendo releases it as late as march of next year to american audiences. It actually looks pretty good. At first I thought the game would suck but that’s just based on basic things I’ve heard, but seeing it in action, it’s worth the buy.
