Capcom to replace Okami box art.

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 at 11:23pm by Will

Okami

Well, if you haven’t heard about the Okami box art scandal, let me get you up to speed really quick. Apparently, there is a water mark of the IGN logo on the actual box art for the game. The logo can be located on the right, next to Amaterasu’s bottom jaw. Capcom has recognized the slip up and has offered to send a replacement cover for free.

You can get a new cover for your Okami box by going to the Replacement Website and filling out the necessary forms. After that, the new cover will be sent to your house within two weeks. However, that’s not the best part, you also have the choice to receive one of the new, alternative, high-quality covers they are offering instead. As for which cover I’m picking, I’ll take the green one.

The alternate artwork is really a beautiful, artistic improvement. Looks like more good came of this than wide press exposure. Also, my respect for Capcom for admitting and rectifying their mistake graciously.

    Same here.

  3. Jake says...

The pink-ish one with the map on the back looks totally sweet!

My eyes are bad. I can not see the watermark!

  5. Dustin Rue says...

I’d rather get a new disc with the controls fixed up so that up means go straight, not to the left.

  6. Neonez says...

The watermark really wasn’t apparent unless you were looking for it but I’m not going to say no to free extra box art. The first one is for me. :D

    I’m going for the green.

This game is awesome, I’m not having any issues with its controls, but that’s probably because I can draw. :p But they’re not as refined as they should have been. I just take things slower than I would like and it register each stroke properly. It’s still way better than drawing with a thumb-stick, unless one’s sensor bar setup sucks.

If Capcom had only given Okami the time it needed, they wouldn’t be playing damage control right now.

    I ordered both…

I’m glad Okami is getting some publicity out of this screw up. If it gets more people paying attention to it, even if they just rush out to buy the ‘rare’ IGN cover version, that’s still a good thing.
Even with the flaws in Okami, the game deserves to be a million+ seller on the Wii. Anyone who has ever complained about the lack of good 3rd party games on the Wii is really obligated to buy Okami.

Aww, this is really nice of them. I am loving this new customer service when things go wrong with a game and the company actually owns up to it. Like the mono only Guitar Hero 3, and the unpublicized bonus of a free faceplate.

Oh, and I just sent in a request for the green alternate cover, although I haven’t bought the game yet, but I planned on doing so this weekend, and this just made it a priority.

I signed up for one. And I don’t even have the Wii version! I do plan to buy it at some point though. I chose the first one, in any case.

One has to wonder if the “accident” wasn’t just a publicity ploy in the first place.

I’m amazed i’ve been able to hold off from buying the PS2 version for so long because this game looks exactly like my sort of game. But soon my patience will be rewarded

I am going to keep the original box art with the hopes that everyone else will mail theirs in making this a collectible item worth a bit of money in a few years.

A replacement website for the cover, really? How about a replacement website for the busted controls.

  15. Daniel Primed says...

This is really quite embarrassing for Capcom, the watermark is completely clear, its quite confusing how it got there in the first place.

“The pink-ish one with the map on the back looks totally sweet!”

Although the new green cover seems to be most popular, I agree with Jake. The artwork for all three is gorgeous, but I think the pink-ish one has the best overall style.

A big props to Capcom doing something for their fans, even though they really didn’t need to.

(Who really cares if there is a barely-visible watermark on your cover? Spend more time playing, and less time gawking already!)
    ;)

I had to go pink. Sakura blossoms = feudal Japan.

  18. McClain142 says...

Wow, that’s interesting. I wonder how many they printed like that? I’m going to go pick one up. Could be interesting to see how rare that print is.

  19. gametaku says...

I just ordered the pink one, I’m going to get Okami tomorrow, i was anyway, but now I can have a cover to be proud of. I’m definitely going to see if I can get that scanned so I can use it as a wall paper.

  20. Shinn says...

I ordered the pink one. I’ve got the PS2 version so I’ll probably just replace the covering on that one. I may get the Wii version in the future though.

Thank you for sharing this offer! I just got Okami and am all about getting free stuff :)

  22. Becka2 says...

I don’t see what’s so special about this game. The Wii version is just a port of the PS2 verson, right? I bought the PS2 version after seeing a nice review of it (this one http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/22/195/Okami/94370) but this game was epic fail. I had no interest in it despite the review making it look great. As for the watermark, I didn’t notice it when I was looking at the Wii version at Target the other day. It’s only easily spotted if you know where to look…

  23. Fairlady Z says...

    Becka2,

The Wii version is a port of the PS2 version, but with widescreen, progressive scan, and motion-controlled Celestial Brush techniques. If you’re someone like me who never owned a PS2 and stubbornly held out for a Wii port, then there’s obviously a lot that’s special about the game.

I didn’t notice the watermark until this post pointed it out either, but I don’t see how there’s anything to complain about. Capcom is giving away FREE replacements, and even new covers. Best not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
