Can Nintendo’s Mii Concept Kill MySpace?

Yahoo News takes a look at the recently announced Mii “popularity” channel. In their article, they question whether or not the Wii will be a rival to MySpace.
Gaming industry analyst Richard Doherty, research director for Envisioneering Group, said that it is a smart move by Nintendo. “Absolutely. Within a year, the Wii may be the most successful and valuable social-networking community on the Web,” Doherty said.
I just don’t see it happening. It’s like saying “will the Instant Message replace email?” It just isn’t the same thing with the same purpose. If any question should be asked, it might be “will social content on Wii be more popular than PlayStation Home?”

isn’t the popularity channel just a place to vote on mii’s? if so it has no social networking properties… as far as i know nintendo hasn’t offered anything other than novelty with this concept… woopty-do if my mii is rated better or worse than someone elses… who honestly cares?..

And to think people thought that Voting Channel was pointless, now this Popularity one I think is rather pointless, and I like the Voting Channel.

The Mii voting concept is lame imo. It won’t viral MySpace in the slighest. MySpace has much more people than Nintendo’s Wii will ever have*. And like anon said the console has no social networking properties. The voting channel is decent enough but nothing to hype up.
*I do not know how many people MySpace has nor do I want to know. I had an account once but never again..

Miis won’t replace MySpace until I can attach a cute cat video to my Mii.

If anything Sony’s Home might give Myspace a run for its money, but it will never become mainstream like te website, why? it needs to sell a few tens of millions to be at that point. Miis are going to become something different but will never compare to myspace.com, also do you want it to? popularity based on how nice your page color combination is very vain.

Mii Popular can not top Myspace…but maybe Xanga.

It possibly could. If it had all of Myspace’s features and then some. So it’s a very safe no.

I would love to see it happen because..frankly I cant fu*king stand myspace, or this new facebook thing, all I think of are human sheep. I was part of myspace for a while but got rid of my account, ok meet new ppl, now what, yippie?
but in reality not everyone who has a computer will own a Wii. Myspace is totaly differnt, its like your own webpage, i just dont see it.
