Early this morning on the game’s official site, Sonic was confirmed for Super Smash Bros Brawl.
Click here for info about Sonic, here for his introduction movie, and here for a video shown at the Nintendo Conference.
Are you surprised they actually did it?

Also, Brawl has Been delayed to January 28th 2008. This doesn’t surprise me either, its a classic Nintendo Move.

With all the content going into the game, I’m not surprised.
Also, online co-op confirmed.
And, No. I would have been surprised if the wasn’t in.

Okay, we got the blue hedgehog; now we need is the blue bomber: Mega Man.

Sorry, for the double post, but…
@Will, that’s JAPAN ONLY. Though the Dec 3rd date has been knocked off for now, but that date is Japan.

I kinda expected when they put Sonic and Mario together at the Olympic games.

Even if it says japan i wouldn’t be surprised if the date is pushed here (US or EUR) too. Brawl will sell well no matter when its released, and Nintendo knows this. But the real question is, why is the date being pushed back…

I don’t think there ever was a date for Japan. I looked at Wikipedia a day or two ago to see if they were getting it first and it said TBA.

There was never a date for Japan, but most people expected them to get it before we did, as is how these things usually work…
But seriously, what a shitty move for Sakurai to take. Announce Sonic, something he knows everyone wants, when he’s got bad news to deliver too.

first, a date for japan should not be bad news, and you may not know it, but japans holiday season starts after december, unlike ours which starts in october/november, so a january date for japanese is close to like hitting christmas over here.
awesome news for the rest though.

YES! I didn’t even believe it on the official website at first.

I think I’m pretty much the only person who was hoping that Sonic wouldn’t be included in Brawl… I had a Facebook group against the idea, and I felt like my description of the group said it all. (It’s a little over the top, I realize, but it emphasized my point)
“Why should Sonic the Hedgehog get to be included in the Nintendo cannon just because Sega has been becoming less and less popular and failed in the console market? Just because Sega failed doesn’t mean they should be allowed to climb on Nintendo’s wagon.
Snake is already iffy enough… Nintendo has enough unique characters that would be absolutely perfect for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it does NOT need to include even more third party characters… save that for some other game.
Remember… people a decade, and probably even half that ago would think you were NUTS if you said Mario and Sonic were appearing together in a game. It just isn’t meant to be.
It comes down to this: Adding Sonic to a Nintendo character-based game would be blasphemy. As much fun as I would have kicking Sonic’s ass with Mario… he doesn’t even deserve to be in the game in the first place. End of story.”
I decided that I’d disband the group, since now it just seems kind of pointless. However, I HAVE vowed to myself never to lose to Sonic in a multi-player battle. ESPECIALLY if I’m playing as Mario.
I don’t know if I can make that promise when I play as someone I’m not that great with… I’m looking at you, DK…

For me the Mario vs Sonic at the Olympic Games was a sign that they weren’t going to include Sonic in brawl. I figured that featuring Sonic against Mario would be best off left to a game where they could truly go at it ie: brawl. Still, awesome that he’s included.
Can’t help thinking it would have been sweet if they didn’t tell anyone though and just left him as the last unlockable character - would be a right surprise that :P.

Anyone against this ridiculously awesome grudge match is silly. Welcome to the party, Sonic!

the ‘blue blur’ is a nice addition but I still want the ‘blue bomber’ to make an appearance.
October 10th, 2007 at 10:44 am
Yah throw in Mega Man and Leon Kennedy and you got GAME OF THE YEAR!
October 10th, 2007 at 11:23 am
Was anyone else getting really angry watching Sonic beat up on Nintendo characters in that video? I was a little shocked at my own emotions.

I CAN DIE HAPPY NOW.

PUSHED BACK, NOOOOO!!!!, I thought today was one of good gaming news, but if this game gets pushed back again, wtf? This game is pretty much done, they’re just spacing out their good titles, screw that, push back Galaxy to next year.

I agree with the Megaman comments, if he gets put into this, it will be totally awesome. I have to say that I was seriously impressed with Sonic’s final smash being Super Sonic. He actually looks like a character I would use and use quite often, online and off.

DANG IT, Mr. Saturn STILL isn’t playable!
C’mon Nintendo! Listen to the fans!
October 10th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Cory… as atlantis said Brawl isn’t being pushed back in North America. Unless you live in japan, in that case i pity you

I’m all for Sinic in a Nintendo games, Sega is pretty much dead in the water after last gen and their market is now nintendo’smarklet. it makes perfect sense for them to focus all their efforts onto Wii and Ds.
October 11th, 2007 at 11:27 am
I had a feeling that sonic was in, the fact that nintendo and sega have buried the hatchet and are making the olympic game was enough to hint at the hedgehog’s addition to brawl.
Now they just need to add a couple of other “3rd party” characters to the game for perfection. Megaman (either standard or X version) and Leon as mentioned earlier. Since they already have a deal with konami the Belmonts (take your pick which) and Alucard would be easy additions. There was also a rumour floating around that they were talking with SquareEnix might indicate that there’s some FF characters in the works.
We just have to wait, and pray.

JUST because of what RabbitDuck said, I am going to make it my goal to beatdown every single person online using Sonic as my character. Watch out guys… I mean BUSINESS!

I am not really flustered. I am still crossing my fingers on the inclusion of Midna from Twilight Princess as a playable character.
