Assassin’s Creed on Wii “Totally out of the question”

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 at 7:01pm by Blake

Jade RaymondAssassin’s Creed, one of my most anticipated games of the year, just lost any chance it had (if any) at making its way onto Wii. Said producer Jade Raymond in speaking to Game Informer, “[A Wii version] is totally out of the question. You would have to change the gameplay completely. Our mandate was to deliver a game that wouldn’t be possible on a previous system… gameplay wise it would have to have a totally different set of key features [for Wii].”

There you have it.

Good, I cant see this game being of any worth on the Wii really. I’m the biggest Wii supporter in the world but this game being developed for a much stronger system wouldnt be half as good on the Wii if not built from the ground up.

sad news. but whoes the chick

    oh its jade….wow

  4. Wii-Wii says...

    yeah.
this is hardly news, the Wii just can not handle this game.

But thats why we all need a 360 AND a Wii

Other than the obvious fact that the Wii just couldn’t handle this game, there’s no real reason that it can’t be published on Wii. I think developers are forgetting that they can still make games that use normal control styles, since the Wii has both the GC and VC controllers that can be used.

I think the main reason why they don’t want to do it on Wii is because of the animation. The game is supposed to be a parkour simulator, where there’s a new animation for every instance of motion. And I’m sure the only way to have a city where you could get somewhere in any fashion you want is to have a lot of RAM. The Wii just doesn’t have that. Everything would have to be toned down, and I’m sure the designers don’t want to do that, as Assassin’s Creed will be amazing.

Of course, I’m probably dead wrong. I’m just writing this to wait for my meatloaf to come out of the oven:)

what about the PC, i wont play it unless its on PC

  9. gojiguy says...

Who asked for this game on the Wii in the first place? I don’t really care for it on ANY system let alone Wii.

  10. BLOCKSS says...

Game developers when making games for the PS3 and 360 they are killing two birds with one shot , why ? the 360 and Ps3 are similar in performance , So making so game for the Wii it has to be bulid from the ground up and work with a different engine kit exclusive for the Wii. UBI devs are just being lazy to start doing the same project again.
UBI knows this game its highly anticipated and it will sell lots of copies , so why not work with what the Wii offers , if ubi wants to make more money on this game release it on all three platforms .
The Wii almost has the same amount owners as the Xbox 360 does and i’ll bet that if this game was being done for the Wii it would sell great also.

Good… a port of the PS3 version wouldn’t have done… I want an assasin’s creed version for the Wii, but built from the ground up.

  12. rokerovakero says...

Of course this game won’t be able to run on the console. Anyone is disapointed about it? if you wanna play it buy a Ps3…

  13. coolian says...

no one is disappointed by this. we are excited about it but are fully aware of why its not coming to Wii.

  14. Doughboy74 says...

My question is to her statement “…Our mandate was to deliver a game that wouldn’t be possible on a previous system…” In terms of processing power and HD. That is it. But she makes the point that the ‘gameplay’ would need to change completely??? WHAT??? Gameplay on the PS3 is the same as PS2 and PS1. Gameplay on the 360 is the same as the XBox… What am I missing. She is talking about gameplay not possible on a previous system… She doesn’t know GAMEPLAY. NINTENDO knows GAMEPLAY.

  15. johnnymilkshark says...

Who cares? Who seriously bought their Wii expecting to play Assassin’s Creed? What the hell is Assassin’s Creed anyway?

  16. stalis says...

Doughboy, she’s talking about the fact that the next gen systems are capable of bigger environments and better AI and better interaction with the environments , that affects gameplay, whether you see it from behind your Nintendo-colored glasses or not…

PS. I’m pretty sure SHE knows GAMEPLAY, NINTENDO isn’t the only ones making great GAMES you know…

  17. Questworld says...

Well yeah we know it won’t run on the Wii (or could it?), but can Ubisoft put some big efforts on the Wii too? I mean if this won’t run on the Wii, does that mean even the next Splinter Cell, which incidentally mimicks some of the elements from AC, won’t even be available for the Wii? I’m personally hard pressed to find any Ubisoft game that I want for the Wii. I was excited for Far Cry, but they ruined that completely. Assassin’s Creed is the only other Ubisoft that interested me. I don’t know yet about Haze or Brothers in Arms Wii.

  18. KillerHeroes says...

No one who bought a Wii expected a game like Assassin’s Creed to be on the system.

  19. ResidentialEvil says...

The next Splinter Cell game is likely going to be 360 only.

  20. AC says...

well my only beef is why doesn’t ubi put more effort on games made from the ground up for wii? red steel was pretty good, but pretty buggy, they could fixed it. nobody wants a watered down port of assassin’s creek on wii. no one. everyone wants an original game made from the ground up maximizing wii’s abilities. we just want some effort, that’s all. its not too much to ask.

  21. InvisibleMan says...

AC, BLOCKSS: there are no “lazy devs” in this industry… they just won’t invest in building a game from the ground up for just one platform because they won’t get a return on their investment, as simple as that! It’s just plain Math…

And I’ll bet they still have a bad taste in their mouths for having tried to port a game with a huge environment to Wii (Far Cry)… It is just impossible! Far Cry even had problems running on the Xbox!

And not to put the game down, since I don’t know anything about it, but why is it so important? There are plenty of other games that don’t have a chance of getting ported to Wii due to technical limitations!

  22. Scott says...

Whoa…she is purdy. Must be great having her on board at Ubi for all your PR needs.

  23. droop4 says...

    @ invisibleman:

The Wii can do better than the xbox. Developers ARE being lazy because if they invest in a game, and make it a great game, they would get a reward for a great game. The reason why we’ve had low quality titles is because developers first wanted to see if there was really a place for the Wii along the so call next gen systems. Now that they know, they are trying to really support the system and come up with good games.

Most analysts and videogame experts (IGN, 1UP, Nintendo Power and our very own Infendo) expect this to happen soon pretty soon, as developers know that there are great possibilities and the Wii’s future looks everyday brighter. It is just a matter of time… Perhaps in a couple of months or even less.

  24. BLOCKSS says...

The reason for all the rushed out games and all these ports was because developers where dissming the Wii even before launch .
Ubisoft looked like they never spended time nor dedication to work with the Wii sku and thats was plain lazyness ,now they felt behind when they notice the hype and the sales the Wii was making..
Games like Red Steel is no doubt a rushed game, and the rest like Rayman, Splinter Cell, Far CRY ,Ubisoft thought about cashing in and overlooking the ”graphics” and gameplay .

Now I really dont mind nor expected if Asassin Creek doesnt make to the Wii who should cared is UBISOFT,they know without a no doubt they’re missing out on cashing in bigtime and know that the Wii installed base is growing at a rapid pace puts a bigger dent for not trying buissness wise.

  25. Questworld says...

Let’s put it this way, developers are doing a lot of things to understand the ins and outs of the PS3 and 360 and even the PC’s new video cards. They’re coming up with new physics programs, behavior programs, etc. among so many technically impressive games. They’ll try to push these systems by fiddling around with them to get the most that they’ve learned to do. So why can’t they take the same approach towards the Wii. I mean it’s not like Superman Returns, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the like on the 360 and PS3 had everyone salivating or anything. We know “lazy” (and I don’t intend to insinuate that developers are lazy since it’s not an easy job, but let’s say not as good as some others are) work when we see it and that’s how they were. The results speak for themselves. Others on the otherhand are just decent but hardly the “big show.” Games like MGS3 or FFX on the PS2 were last gen’s “big shows” and frankly I don’t see why we don’t get those kinds of efforts even on the Wii. So why haven’t we seen that on the Wii (not saying that there haven’t been interesting announcement for down the line)? Where’s out Gears of War, or Assassin’s Creed, or, you know, the new concepts and ideas for a new game that’re impressive technically (for the Wii), artistically, etc.? Where’s our MGS3? What, the PS3 exists suddenly people forgot how they managed to make MGS3 on the PS2? Is that why 2D games mostly vanished? You got a big canvas now and suddenly can’t remember how to draw on a letter-sized paper?

  26. Questworld says...

Why are we getting hum-drum efforts like Elebits when we could have MGS3 efforts. Why was it that when the PS2 got MGS2, MGS3, ZOE, ZOE2, Contra, Castlevania, Rumble Roses, Ys, etc. the Cube only managed mostly Disney Sports, Yu-Gi-Oh, and pitiful multiplatform games like TMNT? I have a Cube, you know what Konami game I got? Twin Snakes… and that was it. And you know what, Konami was too busy with MGS3 that Twin Snakes was essentially a direct port (unlike Resident Evil Rebirth which did more than making a pretty next-gen version of an old game). Not saying I’m complaining simply getting what it was, but good grief don’t give me some excuse that Nintendo fans don’t want the rest of the MGS series or even new stories outside the main series’ stories and that “low” sales of Twin Snakes is somehow representative of that. What next, a Solid Snake theme Tetris clone and that if that doesn’t sell well, hey, I guess that means we really don’t want the Metal Gear series.

  27. Johnny says...

“Whoa…she is purdy. Must be great having her on board at Ubi for all your PR needs.”

She’s a producer, Scott. That means she’s coordinating the entire development of the game, not just doing PR.

  28. BLOCKSS says...

Assassin’s Creed as been in developement for quite some time way even before the ps3 was released , So my whole point is any developer with that same amount of time and dedication and plenty of research for such a project will be a top notch game .So if the Wii was taken with the same consideration and the same amount of time ,reasearch, dedication anyone cant say a game like A.C cant be done on the Wii, atleast make it with what the Wii can offer and give it another title name .

If A.C on the ps3 involves 100 ppl’s in one action scene ,so make it with 65 or 50 ppl on a action scene for the Wii ..

You can tell Ubisoft dismissed the Wii way before it even launched and didnt invest in building a game from the ground up nor spended time or research for the Wii and they thought they won’t get a return for their investment,

I was a big time Splinter Cell and Ubi fan before the Wii on my ps2 ..
But I say Ubisoft is lossing a big time spender of thiers if they think I bought the Wii to buy games like Elibits or Rayman and half done ports . And who ask Ubisoft for RAYMAN 2 its only been six month from the first and the second part is on the making ?

Before I X Ubisoft out of my list I will give them one more chance and thats when I see Red Steel 2 its rumored that it will include online multiplayer, better control and graphics.
