It seems that since the Xbox One reveal, Wii U sales in the UK have blown up! Before the reveal, the Wii U was ranked at about #390 on Amazon’s PC & Gaming Best sellers list. After the launch, it quickly rose to #48 and increased by 708% on Amazon.com’s UK site. The overall increase in sales in the UK equated to an 875% jump! (Figures as reported by Payeressence, com and gamenesia.com).
I should state that the UK has cut the price from £289.99, ($437.42) to £219.99 for the basic pack, ($331.83).
Currently, on the United States list, it is ranked 369 for the 32GB version, and 368 for the 8GB version. I cannot find sales figures for the Wii U beyond May 18th, where it sits in fifth place behind the Nintendo DS (DS sold 13,573 units that week, Wii U sold 13,024 units in North America).
I have been saying all along that people have been holding off on purchasing the Wii U until they see what both Sony and Microsoft have to offer. At least in the UK, this shows that the Wii U will be the console of choice (for the time being). Of course, this could change when the other two consoles actually release.
What are your thoughts of the sales increase? Do you think we will see something similar in North America in the coming weeks, or maybe after E3? Will a North American jump in sales require a price drop similar to the UK? Share your thoughts below!
