Which bit-player in the Mario universe would you like to see more of?

Four days ’till Super Mario 3D Land! That gives us plenty of time to discuss deep, important issues such as…

Of all the weird, crazy minor characters that have taken part in Mario’s surreal adventures, which one deserves more appearances? I have several favorites: The Bob-omb King, The Pianta Street Vendor, any of the Lava Hippos…

I’m picking Guppy, the bizarre Orca from Super Mario Galaxy. He’s simultaneously creepy and charming, and when he’s half-beached, talking to Mario, he’s one of the strangest sights ever to grace a game. I’d love to see him pop up in more Mario adventures; maybe Peach could hire him to patrol the castle moat, because those Toads seem pretty ineffective at security. If, by some miracle, he shows up in 3D Land, I’ll be one happy player.

So, which of the Mushroom Kingdom’s least-celebrated inhabitants do you think deserves a callback? And, yes, the RPG characters count.

I’d like to see more of the guys from Twilight Town in Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door! That entire section of the game was really original, and you don’t see that kind of thing too often, especially when Nintendo seems to think they need to have desert, grassland and sky areas in EVERY SINGLE GAME!

The penguins from Super Mario Galaxy! The way they wiggle-wiggle when you tap on them is just >~< cute!

I would like to see more of Tatanga, Blargh and Rex. Oh and I miss the Dino Rhinos!

But more importantly I want Nintendo to not shy away from giving a Mario game some flavor. Ever since Sunshine they’ve been sticking to the generic-as-possible and pandering-to-the-retro style of Mario.

I miss when each Mario game was actually quite unique in style (look at Mario Land 2, Super Mario World, Mario 3, Mario 2, etc).

@Gojguy. If you’re calling Super Mario Galaxy generic. Well, I can’t even respond to that… The only “generic” ones were the NEW super Mario bros games.

Out of all the minor characters I can recall, I would love to see those mustachioed-baseball cap guys that replace all of the Koopa Troopas after you beat the Star World “Tubular, Awesome, Cool” etc. levels in Super Mario World.

But it has to be said, minor characters aside, I want Geno and Mallow back. In a Mario game, in Smash Bros., Mario Party or Kart, whatever, just do it.

The three purple ghosts from Paper Mario Thousand year door. I loved them

    Wa. Lu. I. Gi.

Not sure if he’s considered a bit character in this context, but he certainly is one!

  9. Josh says:

I want to see more Super Mario Bros. 2 characters. I love Birdo, but also love snifits, porcupos, Pidget (the flying carpet guy), phanto, albatoss, and ostros. There are so many cool characters and ideas in that game. (Yes, I realize it wasn’t originally a Mario game).

    How about less of: Toad

  11. Hitokiri_Ace says:

I would like another adventure with Admiral Bobbery, and Vivian from Thousand Year Door. They were fun and interesting characters. Is it weird Vivian was kinda cute? lol

@David, ya, less Toad please. He’s really not fun in my opinion.

  12. Nate says:

I love Toad and there should always be more Toads. There’s never enough Bomb-ombs either. I’d love to see more super mario world characters…

  13. Jonathan says:

I agree with Joe, and Alexandre!

    Shadow Sirens, and Twilight-town-ers.

I’d be fun if you saw your partners from Paper Mario & Paper Mario: TTYD:

    Goombario
    Kooper
    Bombette
    Parakarry
    Lady Bow
    Watt
    Sushie
    Lakilester

    Goombella
    Koops
    Madame Flurry
Small/Young Yoshi (You get to name him)
    Vivian
    Admiral Bobbery
    and Mrs. Mowz.

I don’t care for the Super Paper Mario characters, they don’t have ANY character development.

(BTW, Paper Mario and Paper Mario: TTYD are my favorite Paper Mario games so far….)

  14. Jonathan says:

Oh, I agree with Blaise, too.

    Geno & Mallow!

I would like to see a character from another game.Like in the Legend of Zelda style room in 3D Land, Link meets Mario then Link is the boss of the level.IT WOULD BE EPIC.I think Link would win, but if the room needs to be beaten you need to kill Link.Thats a harsh way to celebrate the 25th anniversary.Killing Link.WOWWWWWWWWW.
