Sequels rule the Virtual Console with this week’s two new releases:
Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom - NES - 1991 - 500 Wii Points
Join master ninja Ryu Hayabusa, last member of the famous Dragon Clan, in the third and final chapter of the legendary Ninja Gaiden saga. Ryu is framed for FBI agent Irene Lew’s murder, and it’s up to him to clear his name.
Phantasy Star II - Genesis - 1989 - 800 Wii Points
Hailed as one of the greatest games of all time by fans and media alike, Phantasy Star II is an RPG that features an epic story line and turn-based battles. Experience the magic once again in this great sequel.
Both of these are incredibly tempting, but when does one find the time?!

None of these titles really excite me. I wish they had released Smash Bros. 64. I definitely would have gotten that

At least give us: Blaster Master, Thexder, Stunt Race FX, Out of this World, Desert Strike, Uniracers, Starfox, Extreme-G or even give us Super Mario Kart. The list goes on…

Man all i want is Harvest Moon 64 and the unlikely to come Ogre Battle 64. Im just to lazy to hook up my 64 to play these titles.

Really no one liked the Phantasy Star series for the Genesis? Not the best choices, but certainly not the worst.

Phantasy Star II is very old-school, with lots of level building and seriously difficult dungeons. And people these days tend to be used to Final Fantasy-style RPGs, which mean dialogue-heavy, soap operatic stories.
Yet Phantasy Star II contains one of the most shocking moments of any RPG, and I’m not even talking about Nei kicking the bucket, the Aeris before Aeris. I’m talking about the destruction of Parma, the world of the original Phantasy Star! Completely blasted to bits, and not retconned in later installments either. (When Phantasy Star IV revisits Lassic’s castle from the original game, it’s hidden in the asteroid belt that’s all that remains of Parma.) Although the characters have only a handful of lines of dialogue throughout the game, the sense of loss and dread that pervades the game is suffocating. It doesn’t even have an upbeat ending.
As for Ninja Gaiden III… eh. I think the NG games are overrated these days, like a Castlevania game that doesn’t understand pacing.
