Ever wonder what the whole hubbub is about the Mother universe? Why the fans are so crazy about the characters and story, and why so many people are upset that the game wasn’t released in English? Could it possibly be the fact that there was a trailer at E3 many years ago showing the game on the Nintendo 64. It doesn’t matter now anyway…

On a side note, why is it that Nintendo has ignored the Mother/Earthbound fan base? They have even gone to mention that the fans are the most dedicated fans they have with all their planned Phone calls, various petitions, and fan art mailing. So why are they left as cameo combatants in Smash Bros?
I think Nintendo has largely ignored Mother fanbase because I don’t think it’s as big as it’s blown out to be.
If Earthbound had turned out impressive numbers in sales, I imagine we wouldn’t have this problem, though.
I guess Nintendo figures that it isn’t big enough to make, but so big that fans will make a translation, since we will do it, why should they? I honestly am wondering why Nintendo does this.
Just replayed Earthbound recently. I’d love to see more Mother games released over here, or anywhere, for that matter.
They may be the most dedicated fans, but I don’t think Nintendo feels there are enough of them to merit a US release.
Seriously, can someone please explain why this game is so great?
Earthbound is so great because it is quirky, unique, oozes creativity and has a really fun and actually challenging battle system. If only Square focused so much on gameplay these days.
I’m not a BIG Earthbound/Mother fan when it comes to this series, but WHY in Nintendo’s name do you put out a Earthbound game on SNES back in the 90′s, aka: Mother 2 in Japan and not bring out a sequel for it on GBA here in the US instead of giving another country besides Japan rights to the have the game. It doesn’t make sense to me.
Well, it’s probably because Mother (1) wasn’t released here in North America to begin with.
I forget what their justification was with releasing Mother 2 to begin with when they should have gone with the original…
That was because Mother 1 was supposed to come out in America, it just was scrapped, I think because they wanted to focus on the SNES.
And by the way, I heard from someone who had actually contacted a Nintendo representative that the representative (Whom he said was one of the most pro-Mother-to-America ones he had encountered) said that it probably wouldn’t come to America because said representative had been at meetings where Reggie had called the Mother series “offensive”. So blame Reggie.
