The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition dated, arrives Sept 28

In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of everyone’s favorite green hero, Nintendo announced at E3 that they would be giving away a free downloadable Zelda title to anyone who owns a Nintendo DSi, DSi XL, or 3DS. That title is aptly named The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition, and starting September 28, you can grab a copy for yourself.

Nintendo was kind enough to show off the title to anyone who attended their non-TGS TGS event this past week, and as it turns out the game has been given a few upgrades since its original release nearly a decade ago. For starters, the entire adventure can be played in single player this time around. If playing solo, an additional Link will appear on-screen that can be controlled independently by selecting them with the L and R buttons.

Four Swords Anniversary Edition also will feature two new areas not found in the original. Each area will consist of three levels that when completed will gain access to an all new skill for Link.

I for one am extremely excited about the prospect of a multiplayer Zelda adventure that I can take with me on the go. The only missed opportunity that I think Nintendo could have capitalized on would have been the addition of online play. Oh well, the game is free after all. Be sure to check the eShop in two weeks time to receive your free goodies. The game will remain free until February 20, 2012, so be sure to snag one before then.
