Nintentunes: The anti-Nintendo edition

Video game music has come a long way from the bleeps and bloops that populated most game at the inception of the medium, and seems only right to take a look back at not only game that have appeared on Nintendo consoles, but ones that have appeared on consoles that do things that Ninten-don’t (see what I did there?). With that said, I hope you enjoy this weeks walk down memory lane in this edition of non-Nintentunes! (more…)

This new trailer for Aliens: Infestation brings the hotness and looks to do the exciting new title justice. Wayforward has seen much success with their previous 2D platformers on Nintendo handhelds, and it looks as if Aliens: Infestation is geared to deliver the goods.

The trailer reveals a variety of enemies and weapons that will be obtainable, and what looks to be an early boss character.

You can look for Aliens: Infestation this October for the Nintendo DS.

Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure isn’t just a really long game title, it’s a really long game title for a game that happens to be for the 3DS. Sega looks to have a winner with Rhythm Thief, as it looks to have blended the best elements of Professor Layton and Rhythm Heaven. Here’s what Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sega Europe Gary Knight has to say:

“Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure blends rhythm, puzzles and a compelling story set in one of the world’s most exciting cities in a way that has never been seen before. This unique blend makes creative use of the Nintendo 3DS’ technology, offering an engaging, challenging and most importantly fun experience throughout.”

I need to see more before I declare it my Game of Forever 2011, but I’m seriously considering picking up a launch copy. If there are dancing cats in the game, I’m totally sold. Head past the jump for the full press release.

Aliens: Infestation, the side-scrolling metroid-vania style action game from WayForward has gained quite a following since being outed by the Australian ratings board this May, and judging by the released gameplay trailers, it won’t disappoint. Now that the fall is finally approaching, Sega has revealed that October 11th will be Infestation day.

The reveal was announced this weekend at PAX 2011 during the Gearbox panel. While the game isn’t directly connected to the Wii U title Aliens: Colonial Marines, it will have a few easter eggs that tie the two together.

WayForward Technologies is known for their ability to craft well made retro style games, and has a track record of such titles as Contra 4, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, and A Boy and His Blob. If there is any studio with the talent to bring the best out of the Aliens franchise it is WayForward. Here’s hoping that they knock this one out of the park!

New trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines brings the whimsy

Sega was one of the first companies on board the Wii U train when the console was formally announced this June saying that Aliens: Colonial Marines would be coming to Wii U. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the title will be arriving this spring, but seeing as how the Wii U has not definitive release date, all we Nintendo fans can do is look on and watch and dream of how one day that radar screen will be in the palm of our hands.

One area I really think that the Wii U will be able to excel is in with cooperative play because one player will be able to use the TV while the other uses the Wii U tablet. Cooperative play has been confirmed for the title, but no word on how Gearbox plans to use the Wii U’s ability to stream game content to the tablet controller.

In any case, Aliens: Colonial Marines looks to be shaping up to be a must have title when it releases for Wii U. Hopefully Sega has it ready in time for the launch of Wii U so gamers have content to play immediately upon the consoles release. We don’t want another 3DS debacle now do we Nintendo?
