Freakyforms first impressions: Wow. Buy this thing!

Friday, November 11th, 2011 at 2:19am by Richard

My wait for Mario’s upcoming game just got a little more bearable, because for the last two hours I’ve been unable to tear myself away from Freakyforms, a brand-spankin’ new Nintendo property that just hit eShop for $6.99.

It’ll be a little while before I can write a review, because this is the kind of game that starts you off with limited options and keeps growing the more you play. At this point, however, I can tell you it’s good. Really, really good. If you’re a fan of Animal Crossing, and you love to create, buy it. (more…)

Zelda Skyward Sword starts slower than any other Zelda in recent memory. In fact, it took two dates with her before I decided I wanted to keep dating.  (more…)

3DS buyers: What are your impressions after your first play-through?

Sunday, March 27th, 2011 at 10:19pm by Richard

I’d never played or even seen 3DS in person until I picked it up this afternoon. I’m having a great time with it…or I was until the battery ran out after three hours. Sad battery reality aside, here are some quick initial thoughts:

1. Love the whole user environment, and the camera’s going to get a lot of use.
2. Face Raiders is a blast. It lessens the sting of the hardware price.
3. The AR games are amazing.
4. The Miis look great in 3D.
5. Street Fighter looks incredible, plays great.
6. Pilot Wings is thrilling, with a convincing feeling of height.
7. Nintendogs looks even better than I’d anticipated, and the 3D really pops in this one.
8. Gotta find a coat pocket big enough to carry it to work to earn coins! (more…)

Second Impressions: An update from Wasteland

Minor spoilers ahead.

I originally jumped into Epic Mickey without reading any reviews or recent comments; I still don’t really know what the rest of the Infendo crew thinks of the game (according to post comments, I’m on one side of a rift. Really?) The first hours of of Epic Mickey were amazing: As a Disney geek, I got my money’s worth by the time I hit Mean Street.

Many more hours into Wasteland and nowhere near finishing (this game is huge), here’s a quick update before a final review.

I still like Epic Mickey—A lot. But, a few worlds later…and considering the near-infinite possibilities of a toon-based world…I’m getting a wee bit tired of fixing machines. (more…)

First Impressions: Epic Mickey is the best-looking game I’ve ever seen

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 at 3:32am by Richard

I know beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, but…wow. This game is freaking gorgeous. Screen shots don’t do it justice; You have to see it in motion on your own tv. It’s like a finely detailed chalk pastel painting come to life. I kept stopping to simply stare at the living artwork on my television screen.

And the visuals are really solid—not a glitch or tear to be seen yet. The frame rate’s great 99% of the time. (more…)
