Shaun the Sheep and Infendo Giveaway!

Shaun the Sheep and Infendo Giveaway!

Recently Nintendo entered into a partnership with Aardman Animations, the creative genius behind Wallace and Gromit.  As a result, the Nintendo 3DS will feature a brand new Shaun the Sheep 3D adventure, available for free, via SpotPass.  The free episodes began on March 7th, 2012 and are expected to continue across 15 free episodes in the UK.

For some, this might be old news or even not applicable if they live in North America.  However, I think that this is very exciting news.  The 3DS is a small gaming system with a lot of potential, maybe more than we even realize.  The 3DS is packed full of features that can be applied to many different media types.  I was speaking to someone the other day, and they mentioned that the only thing missing is an internal cellular phone option (or even skype **hint hint**). With all the available options, why not take it to the next level?  Sure the PSP gave us the option to buy movies made specifically for the device, unfortunately it was not as popular as expected.  Why buy a movie for your PSP, Blue Ray, DVD, VCR, and Beta Max when you can buy a DVD/Blue Ray combo pack instead.  Nintendo is doing this the right way by providing original content that people will be willing and eager to watch.  Of course, not all content will be right for everyone, and there will be some trial and error.

Partnerships like the one with Aardman Animation is a huge step in the right direction.  It gives Nintendo an opportunity to showcase original programming, with existing studios that have a cult following.  I can’t wait to see what direction this takes!

Mario Kart 7 patch available in eShop

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mario Kart 7 has been patched. Head over to eShop to download the game update, which fixes the shortcut issues in Maka Wuhu, Wuhu Island Loop, and Bowser Castle 1 (I didn’t know about that last one). Note that the patch will not become mandatory for online play until May 16th, so we’ll have to wait until tomorrow for the new cheat-free environment to really take effect. Just think: starting Wednesday there’ll be no more online bozos picking Maka Wuhu over and over and over again just to prove they can cheat as well as any other cheater.

Nice, isn’t it? Maka Wuhu is one of the game’s best tracks; I can’t wait to see it raced properly again!

Nintendo Cancels 3DS Spot TV

Nintendo Cancels 3DS Spot TV

Nintendo has announced that it will shut down the Spot TV service (Itsu no Ma ni Terebi) on June 20th 2012, almost one year to the date of the original launch.  Spot TV is currently available on Spot Pass and allows gamers to watch free original programming in 3D.  Nintendo has not given a reason for the cancellation of the service.

Spot TV was only available in Japan, but I would loved to have seen a North American version introduced.  Nintendo has stated that users will be able to download clips of the programming via Nintendo video.   Although Nintendo did not state the reason for the cancellation of the service, I would guess that the high cost of creating original programming had something to do with it.

Has anyone here had the opportunity to view the programming on Spot TV?

On a side note, Nintendo has also confirmed that they will soon discontinue the aqua blue 3DS.  Once again, no reason was given for the discontinuation of the color.  The only clue given on the end of production was  “soon”.  I would suspect that ti will happen at around the same time as the new purple version is released.
