SQUARE ENIX MERGES MUSIC AND ROLE PLAYING GENRES WITH

THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY

First-Ever Music-Themed Title Commemorates FINAL FANTASY Franchise’s 25thAnniversary

LOS ANGELES (Mar. 22, 2012) – Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, announced THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY® (pronounced “theater rhythm”) exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system. This year marks the 25th anniversary of FINAL FANTASY, and THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY is the first music rhythm game in the history of the world famous franchise.

Developed by rhythm game veteran indieszero, SQUARE ENIX brings more than 70 musical scores spanning 25 years to THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY.   The title features music from key events, lush field themes and decisive battle arrangements.

THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY features a hybrid of music rhythm gameplay with RPG elements. Adorably re-designed heroes from the catalogue of FINAL FANTASY titles will set out on an adventure to combat memorable villains with the rhythmic taps of the player’s stylus. Players can:

  • Revisit their most cherished memories from each FINAL FANTASY title
  • Strive to achieve the highest ranks in the challenge mode
  • Collect and share “dark notes,” a random music sheet that is riddled with hidden loot within the Chaos Shrine
  • Seek out crystal shards to unlock hidden characters

Old news is old? I played this game back in Japan.

It was actually kinda fun. I didn’t really care for it that much since I’m not an FF fan, but it was a neat little game.

  2. Cory says:

How is this old news? This is the first confirmation of the game coming to the US. It was always assumed a high possibility but not confirmed until now.

Anyway, day 1 buy for me, I love FF music (have many of the OSTs on my MP3 player) and music games.

  3. nin says:

wow, i’ve never seen this old of news reported before. seriously infendo, you guys have been dropping the ball in terms of pure game news. for instance, fire emblem awakening has been confirmed for western release.

  4. Essel Pratt says:

Please advise that although this game has been around for a while in Japan, this is an actual press release, from Square Enix directly, announcing that the game will be released in the US this summer. This was only officially announced by Square Enix today.

  5. Richard says:

This is great, great news — I’m very glad it’s now officially coming to the U.S. Day one purchase for me, too. The music has always been my favorite element in the FF series, so I cannot wait to play this thing!

  6. nin says:

just realized, this was specifically for us. sorry infendo for being harsh, still you guys have been dropping the ball on reporting about new games.

  7. EdEN says:

@Nin: Unlike some of the “big” sites, those that post at Infendo don’t get paid for it. They all have regular jobs that pay the bills, and they can’t be expected to report on every single game announcement or a news item the moment it hits. I’ve been through the sam situation since I’m part of the staff at two sites, and there is no way I can post on everything as well.

As for the news, I’m very happy about having the game release in the US. Just need to know the pricing for the DLC so I can plan accordingly.

  9. Hyawatta says:

Is the Aria di Mezzo Carattere from Maria and Draco that was sung at the opera house in Final Fantasy VI included in the Theatrhythm Final Fantasy 3DS game? Does the opera play out while you play the stage? Thank you.
