Pah! I wanted to get one because my older model NES broke, but the last one I saw was at this guy’s video game store and he was selling it for $199. Out of here!

I’d love to have this because my NES’s metal finally gave in so the games don’t play… a very sad moment for me… no more Ice Hockey…

Great, but what about the coveted SNES 2?

I understand that the video is supposed to be like a class or textbook, but was the summarization at the end really necessary? Other than that, very informative. I knew OF the system, but I’ve never actually seen one in person.

When our original NES got to the point that no amount of blowing into it, resetting it, or smacking would make it work, we tried to open it up and clean it, but couldn’t get it back together. We were lucky enough to get a toploader from Babbages for the same price as a crappy original NES, at a price around $40. Sweet deal, it’s great to just put the game in and have it work every time. I love the toploader.

Like most, my NES consistently showed the “yellow screen” several times before loading the games I wanted to play. After a decade or so, that gets annoying. So a friend of mine ordered me some new NES pin connectors on eBay. My old NES works like new, without a single “blow” into the cartridge anymore.
Kinda off-topic, but it is a cheaper solution than buying an NES 2 to solve your NES problems. Anyway, cool video. I have always wanted to play an NES 2, but I have never seen one in person, either.

How did I not know about the NES 2?? It looks vaguely familiar, but I guess I never realized it was actually a NES. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for one of these if I ever see one at a good price somewhere.

Anyone else think he looks like the Angry Game Nerd’s younger brother?
A bit of a slow video but not bad. I wonder if he also knows the SNES had a similar redesign that was also too late.

That was pretty good video. As a nintendo fan and collector of nintendo history myself I only have two problems with this. First there was not over 800 games released for the nes (in the us anyway) even counting unlicensed crap and the three porn games there was still only around 750. Second is a tidbit of leftout information. The reconditioned nes did not include the lockout chip, which meant that you could play imports with just an adapter and not by having to mod the unit. I also think he is mistaken about that the “nes 2″ was meant to do. It was just a lot cheaper for nintendo to make. They knew they couldn’t make the system thrive for several more years with it. It was just a way to get people a replacement or a cheap console for the first time. The original nes cost too much to make and nintendo needed a way to make a profit on their hardware sales, enter the reconditioned nes. Same thing with the new snes that liraco mentioned.
