See a slew of Nintendo Power covers

225_508825433_252cf765fe.jpgJust days after rumors that Nintendo Power may get the axe, a kind gentlemen on Flickr has uploaded about 50 Nintendo Power covers from years past. Click on through to take a trip down memory lane. My favorite from the batch is at your right.

I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning of Nintendo Power and would hate to see it go. My spin on the rumor is maybe, just maybe, it is the end of the magazine name Nintendo Power, being that it sounds so dated. It worked in the 80’s and maybe early 90’s, but Nintendo Power in 2007 sounds goofy. So I hope it’s just the end of the name, and the magazine will have a fresh new title come this fall.

Oh yeah, I am a Nintendo nerd…I still own every single Nintendo Power magazine and Players Guide Nintendo has published.

Some of those covers really bring back memories. *sniff sniff* :(

Long afternoons of hanging out at my buddy’s house after school and looking at his Nintendo Power magazines. I even stole a few from him, including his Ninja Gaiden issue, and for a long time had his Mega Man II issue and would just stare at the awesome claymation artwork… man those were the days.

    :]

I had the 2nd through 6th issues of the Nintendo Fun Club newsletters and became a charter subscriber of Nintendo Power. A couple of years ago, I threw away the first three years’ worth of the original issues!!

Apparently at the media briefing they were talking about possibly licensing it to a third-party publisher (like the situation here in the UK with Future Publishing).

That’s interesting. Maybe Prima? I noticed they did the recent You & Mii guide I’ve seen at Target and Best Buy. It even had the official Nintendo Seal of Approval.

    Maybe Ziff Davis (1up/EGM/GfW).

prima maybe, but only great strategy guides to me are double jump. is prima better then brady games at least?

either way, i dont want nintendo power near anybody associated with 1up or egm, just not my kind of people to get info from.

i dont see the rumors being true though. nintendo power should stay in house where it has more power, closer to the source. its not like it would seem any less biased being a nintendo only magazine. i wouldnt want nintendo haters or people who barely even like nintendo on staff after all.

i think nintendo power right now has a good balance of people with various interests who dont suck up to nintendo while still doing a great job reporting nintendo news. and to people who think a magazine isnt relavent anymore. i hang around all the gaming sites, but because of time limits dont look at every single thing i pass by
yet i skim through NP and notice things i wouldnt before, or read interesting interviews i dont read online, whether its available there or not.
