If you play only seven games in you life time, play these, says Famitsu

Only seven games have received perfect scores from Famitsu since the Nippon magazine started in June 1986 (in chono order):
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, N64)
- Soulcalibur (1999, Dreamcast)
- Vagrant Story (2000, PlayStation)
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003, GameCube)
- Nintendogs (2005, Nintendo DS)
- Final Fantasy XII (2006, PlayStation 2)
- NEW ENTRY: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008, Wii)

I thought Vagrant Story sucked.

Just one more month guys

Worst case scenario 1.5 months with the delay… Oh and +2 months if you leave in the EU like i do…. AAAARRRGGHHH

The way I see it is, if Brawl is any better than Melee, it’s perfect. I was, in fact, playing Melee last night to sharpen up on my skills for when Brawl comes out (darn you, delay!)! The fact that I can still play and enjoy a game several years later almost as much as I did when I first bought it really means something, so my hopes for Brawl are quite high.
I agree with Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker: everyone should play those. I didn’t get to play enough of FFXII to really give a say-so, but it seemed like it was pretty good.
The others, I’ve never playted.

So Famitsu has a review copy. I sense more pictures leaking.

All the more painful that it has been delayed to March.

Although I couldn’t care less about the delay, Brawl really does sound like a “must have” game. It’ll be nice to actually try playing, since I missed out on the GameCube version (Melee) entirely.

From the sounds of it the delay is worth the wait and if it is as better as it sounds i believe it deserves a perfect score. Smash Bros. is just greatness. It is the god of games and reigns supreme above the other titles.

You’re absolutey right, Chris. Vagrant Story is fucking garbage. It is the single worst game I’ve ever played. I’m not one of those people that claims like 10 games to be the best or worst ever either. If you ask me what game I hate the most of all the games that I’ve played, I’ll say Vagrant Story every time.
I still can’t comprehend why it got such rave reviews. Seriously, I didn’t see anything below a 9 when I was looking around. I honestly felt sick to my stomach when I saw how much praise the game got. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. It feels like an episode of the Twilight Zone or something.
Well, I don’t want to rant on about why Vagrant Story is an ab

Go ahead, just rub in our fucking faces, Japan.
January 16th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Well, I accidentally hit submit, but I just want to warn everyone not to ever play Vagrant Story or you’ll be scarred for life.

cool.
although…. the games to make that short list of perfect scores are…. suspect….
i mean, nintendogs on the short list of perfect games? There are some unusual selection criteria at work here…

There japanese man.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about Juja, Vagrant Story is an awesome game and is one of the best under apreciated games ever released.
Hmmm…I don’t regard Famitsu as highly as I use to but this is still great news.

Vagrant Story is an entirely original, incredibly cinematic take on the dungeon-crawling formula. It has one of the best stories ever to be told in videogame format and to this day stands as a landmark achievement in blending cinematic storytelling with deep, turn-based gameplay.
It has flaws, of course, and certainly isn’t for everyone, but the same could be said for every game on that list. Why pick on Vagrant Story just because it ain’t your thing?

Nintendogs dosn’t deserve a perfect score ( but i understand that it comes from a japanese magazine). And im surprised as well that Wind Waker got a perfect score. Sure it is sure is great game but the game visual style gave a refreshing experience but it just felt like a rushed out game. So few dungeons.

wtf whers fucking mario?

Nintendogs? Really?? I mean, I understand how it turned the fate of the DS overnight, but I would consider Animal Crossing: Wild World a far superior game in that category…
January 17th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
FFXII . . . ugh.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
ok, just because it’s fun, here’s my list of 7 perfect games, in no particular order:
Legend of Zelda: ALttP
Legend of Zelda: OoT
SMB 3
Jade Empire
Startropics
MarioKart 64
Counter Strike
There are others, and I haven’t played a great many games, but this is what I’m feeling right now.

No, Vagrant Story is nothing but flaws. And it’s not that it’s not my thing, in fact, before I played it, I was expecting it to be awesome. I mean, it was back in the day when pretty much everything Squaresoft did was awesome, and I’m a huge RPG fan. Vagrant Story, however….
The leveling and battle systems made the game almost unplayable. Seriously, for a weapon to be any good, you’d have to use it a ridiculous amount of times on each type of enemy; you’d be better off never equipping any new weapons. The battle system had some ideas that sounded pretty cool, so I can see why you might call it “deep,” but in practice it was a disaster. Also, the battles were incredibly tedious. I guess it was cinematic for its time, but meh, nothing amazing, nothing compared to games like Metal Gear Solid. As for the story, I’d have to say it was pretty forgettable. Seriously, I’ve forgotten most of it by now (or turned it into a repressed memory).
Hmm, pretty much the only positive thing I can think to say about the game is that Sydney’s metal arms with the claws were pretty cool.
