Poll - Rhythm games
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 at 11:25am by David
DDR, Guitar Hero, SingStar, Rock Band, Samba de Amigo, and many more iterations of rhythm games have appeared and will soon be releasing more titles. This week, we want to know:
Are you tired of rhythm games yet?

Can you really call Rock Band a “rythm game”? It is more like a platform or an experience. Elite Beat Agents was a rythm game. I am tired of stuff like that, but Rock Band is still coming on strong in my book.

Rock Band is most definitely a rhythm game. It just happens to focus on multiplayer rather than single player.

The only difference between rock band or guitar hero and ddr is the input. Besides that it’s all the exact same game. I’d like to see more original rhythm games like elite beat agents or gitaroo man.

I don’t see the relevance of the question, other than curiosity. As long as people make their dollar vote for these games, they will do well.
Personally, I’m tired of the same old war game and standard shooters. And don’t get me started on GTA. But that’s my personal opinion and I don’t want them to disappear cuz I dislike them.
And rock band qualifies, you just don’t want it to cuz you like that one. Rock band and GH are essentially the same, and those are the ones being potentially over done. Games like Elite Beat Agents don’t even get much advertisement or hype. Don’t like it, don’t pick it up. Personally love it, but maybe that’s cuz I’m a girl (lol, j/k).
Its just like every “next big thing” it will die down, a little or a lot. But I’m enjoying it while it lasts.

At the risk of sounding pretentious, I’m just not into “rhythm games”. Given that I can play a real guitar, nothing beats playing along to Metallica’s One, in front of a half stack. To me, pressing little buttons feels silly, and a little awkward.
However, I still think these games are great for bringing music to new audiences, and inspiring new guitar players.

I have not played Guitar Hero or Rock Band because I really hate the soundtracks. I have spent a lot of time with Ouendan and DDR and I am not tired of these titles.

I only enjoy Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan 1/2. I have played DDR, but I’m not coordinated enough to enjoy it.
I do enjoy the Advance Step Aerobics in WiiFit, though.

I’m not all that into rhythm games. I thought Ouendan was kinda cool, but I’m AWFUL at it. The only one I’ve ever really enjoyed was Space Channel 5.
Oh, how I’d love a new SC5 for the Wii…

I’m tired of rhythm games, but I’ve had a long history with them. I was an early adopter of DDR back when it was still available only by import, and I’ve tried pretty much every rhythm game that’s come out ever since (even Karaoke Revolution). At this point, with the rising cost and the realization that storing the limited-use peripherals is a hassle, not to mention my only average upper skill limit with the games, I’ve become disenfranchised. With the exception of EBA, I haven’t bought a rhythm game since Guitar Hero the First.

I am still awaiting many sequels to “リズム天国 - Rhythm Tengoku” or Rhythm Heaven. It was only released in Japan for the GBA but it is just what I would love on the Wii. Many people would say, “Elite Beat Agents…for DS” but these two games are so different. Original songs/beats vs. teen pop stars…hmmm. I prefer the prior.

No. If only for the sweet sultry sounds of Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan. Guitar Hero, DDR, and the rest are all just lightweights compared this series.
I have also enjoyed seeing the innovation that companies have been taking in the genre (Patapon, Gitaroo Man, etc..). It’s refreshing to see new takes at the same old song and dance [genre].

While I do like rhythm games, it just seems to me like there’s a huge onslaught being released at once, rather than spread apart throughout the year.
If there was ever a way to pace the release of any rhythm game, then I would feel better.
But having titles released every week for three months straight is a little too overwhelming.

No, I’m not, if it’s ok to have a million and one first-person shooters, why can’t there be just that many ‘good’ rhythm games? They are enjoyable, and sometimes I’d rather play a good bit of guitar hero 3.

Where the hell is EBA2!??!?!?
May 27th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
In Japan. Pretty sure iNiS is done with the series, unless their secret Wii Project is EBA2.

Looks like your wish came true!

i’ve been waiting very patiently for these games to die out. i’ve never liked them, and i never understood why they were so popular.

Meh I never liked rhythm games all that much. I was debating Samba de amigo but I don’t know. The first time I played a rhythm game was PaRappa the Rapper. My friend and I had a hoot for hours because we were a little drunk and had some kush. I have all Donkey Kong bongo games but that’s about it. I have played Guitar Hero’s and Rock Band but I cant just stair at a screen with only a guitar neck with frets moving towards me and little colored circles coming at you…it’s just not enough for me. Not to mention the pathetic graphics of bands playing. It’s just not fun pushing buttons and drooling, it just numbs my mind, zombie styles. I like surprises, and things that make me jump and scare the shit out of me. I like figuring out puzzles and making my mind think, and occasionally cussing. Oh you can say “well rhythm games are good for reaction times and hand eye coordination” yea well so is a car racing game and those are way more fun. I like Adventures, Shooters, Racing, etc I need more visuals then a guitar neck for a game to be enjoyable. Regardless of the fact that girls LOVE to play Guitar Hero and Rock Band, girls also love to play Mario Kart. I am happy I can play 5 different REAL instruments, because you are not going to make girls panties wet by playing a fake drum kit or a fake guitar
