Poll - Portable game safety

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007 at 9:21am by David

portablesinpublic.jpgTrains, picnics, libraries, airplanes, and now baseball games: Nintendo spottings are popping up all over the place. Whether its a GBA, DS, PSP, or something else, there’s always a bit of risk involved in brandishing a popular piece of technology in public. This week we want to know:

Do you feel safe playing portable games in public?

Actually, I’m more likely to not game in public out of embarrassment rather than fear of theft.

I live in the middle of nowhere, So to me, Public is about 4+ people. And everyone’s nice and friendly, so I have no problem playing on my GBA Micro at any given time.

I haven’t used public transportation in about 8 years (the last time I went to NYC or Boston, I forget which….) so the only opportunity I have to game in public is in waiting rooms, in line at DMV, etc. And I don’t have a problem doing that, but I don’t think I’d play my DS on, say, a NYC subway platform, for fear of having it snatched.

I’m with greatslack, though I never even get very embarrassed- the DS Lite is too sexy to get scoffed at =P

Also, I’ve never been really afraid of my DS being stolen. It’s always either in my hands or in my pocket =]

    Yeah: At WORK!!

While I feel 100% safe even here in Chicago when it comes to my handheld getting stolen, my worry is getting the nasty looks when people see me playing DS instead of, say, reading The Economist or The Wall Street Journal

Yeah, I used to be in the same boat when I worked at a bank until 11 years ago (I never had a Game Boy at the time but playing games on your PC wasn’t acceptable, whereas reading a bit of the WSJ was.)

I just came back from a doctor’s office in which I used NitroTracker in the waiting room to transcribe some melodies I’ve had in my head for quite a while. The Nintendo DS: It’s not just for Pokemon anymore.
