The economy isn’t killing me so much as living alone is killing me. I actually have to pick and choose what I want to buy now. *sheesh* Life is hard. ;)

On a more serious note, the current state of the economy does make me think twice. I was saving up for a PS3, but I don’t see the point right now since my 401K went into the crapper. More money into savings here we go.

  2. Dustin says:

Why Paul? You haven’t actually lost any money yet…not until you take it out.

  3. Jamie says:

I’m still a student so money doesn’t really come into it for me, I have my student loan which (I know it shouldn’t) pays for my gaming. So I have that money anyway and unless we get major inflation on video games, I should be pretty ok for the time being.

It is not so much that the economic crisis has affected us yet, but I know, as many do, that my job might not be there in a few months, so that makes me be extra-conservative with my gaming money.

On the other hand, the fact that I have a mountain of games I have barely started is a bigger influence in not buying the next hot title. Honestly, how come there are people that actually have the time to go through one complete game in less than a month every month for every gaming platform out there??

  5. Roddy says:

For me, here in Brazil, due to exchange rates, a 15 dollar WiiWare game suddenly became more expensive. Add that to the already crazy-expensive regular games, because of taxes and all that, and yeah, it’s hard to acquire a game these days…

I bought the Guitar hero guitar bundle; nuff said. :P

  7. Paul says:

Dustin, well what I mean is that since I have no viable equity right now (other than my income) and my job is pretty stable right now, I figured I should be putting more money in savings in case the rug gets pulled out from under me and I need to make payments. My 401K is my absolute last line of defense and now that it’s dropped a fair amount, I figure I should put more money away in savings where I won’t take a 40% hit just in case.

I probably should do that all the time, but what fun is that. ;)

  8. My theory: if the economy goes, then the dollar becomes worthless… so buy now!

  9. rdaneel72 says:

Yes!!! With “recent economic issues” being my wife’s unemployment.

  10. EdEN says:

As is the case with Roddy, the Dollar went up and up here in Mexico and a 1,000 Wii point Wiiware game now would cost me 1,300 and considering I have still to buy the Strong Bad Episodes… well it does add up.

But the advantage I have here in Mexico is that 80% of my yearly game purchases are done at a department store called Liverpool that 3-5 times a year has a “Night sale” which means the whole store (including video games) is at 18 months to pay interest free (monthly payments of 100 dollars for every 1,800 dollar purchase) and 20% of your total purchase back as store credit.

Wario Land Shake It, GH:WT (Full Band Kit), Tales of Symphonia, de Blob, Boom Blox, Wii Music, Castlevania Judgement, Tomb Raider Underworld, Deadly Creatures, Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, Sam and Max Season 1, Samba de Amigo, Castlevania: Order of Eclesia, Crosswords DS, Dragon Quest IV, Final Fantasy IV, Metal Slug 7, Robocalypse, Age of Empires: Mythology, Chrono Trigger DS and 3-4 games I’m sure to be forgetting will be my christmas from me to me, for only 30-50 a month and an extra 20% back in store credit to purchase the gifts for the family.

    I’m set.

    Ahhh… Liverpool!

I probably spent half my teenage life in the Liverpool of Plaza Satélite. I also played my first video games in that mall… (I wonder if Pennyland is still there??)
