  1. deepthought says:

regular ds is fine- plus i like the older games that the new one can’t play

  2. TechNick says:

I’m picking one up on launch day! Color Black! I wanted white but for some reason NoA saw fit to make the US release the only country that doesn’t receive white. >_>

Normally I wouldn’t care about a release like this, but I see the DSi as a much larger upgrade than everyone thinks. The cameras and music player re fine and all, but the DSiWare was the real deal maker for me. I love the idea of small downloadable Indie DS games. And something that people don’t realize is that the DSi has 2x the processing power of the old DS and 4x the RAM! For a handheld, especially the DS, thats a huge upgrade. And with the already confirmed Retail DSi games, I’m set for the future. I have a feeling in about 2 years the DSi will have completely phased out the DS Lite, and Nintendo will start touting it as a whole new system!

  3. Poochy says:

    @ TechNick:

Good for you. The rest of us poor folk who can’t afford to poke out $179 for a new handheld will stick to our good ol’ GBA-enabled DS Lites. The only thing that the DSI can do that, regrettably, the DS Lite can’t accomplish through flash carts and homebrew software is function as a camera.

  4. Priyesh says:

I’ll pick one up when theres enough exclusive content in DSWare or otherwise. For now my DS Lite is just fine :) especially since I want to be able to transfer my Pokemon from Emerald into Platinum.

  5. TechNick says:

    @ Poochy

Well I traded in my old DS for the DS Lite on launch day. So at this point it’s starting to show it’s age. The L trigger is becoming mushy when pressed and sometimes not working, I have about 6 or 7 dead pixels on my top screen now, and the hinge is beginning to crack. I take really good care of my systems, but I use my DS alot and it can’t old up forever.

Also, the DSi is $169 not $179.

  6. Matt says:

    Take that Poochy!

    …. :)

  7. Kannon says:

I agree with TechNick. Also my L trigger on my DS Lite is almost null and void.

  8. Jamie says:

    April 3rd thankyou :D
Not sure, depends how much money I have at the time. If I have enough I’ll get it at launch, if I don’t I’ll have to wait, took me almost a whole year to get the DS Lite.

  9. Taulmarill says:

I’ll get it on launch day. Have a first gen DS right now and was considering a DS Lite right when the DSi was announced, so i chose to wait. Have high hopes for the downloadable games though, there are a few gems on WiiWare.

  10. mykie says:

Until the R4 works with the DSi, or the DSi supports side-loading your existing DS games, I don’t think I’ll be buying.

Not that I support piracy, of course, I actually buy the games I play (honest!)…but it’s so much easier and more portable to load up games on a MicroSD than to fumble around with carts.

  11. Jamie says:

    @ mykie
R4 will never work for it, there are however alternatives out there already though, if you look

  12. AtmanRyu says:

My original DS still works fine.

I’m planning to get the most mileage out of it (and find a used GameBoy Advance for my older games) before upgrading.

  13. Attilio says:

Since I don’t own a DS I’m getting this right away. I pre-ordred it on amazon.com the day it was released on the site. I figure its a good investment for me because I can browse the internet as well as play games and listen to music.

    @mykie
the acekard2i works for DSi, although i think its only been tested in Japan. I’m sure within 2 weeks of the DSi being released we’ll have definite news on whether or not the acekard2i works in the US or not.

  14. Craig says:

I’m buying a DSi at launch. I haven’t owned a portable gaming system since the GameBoy Color so I’m looking forward to this purchase. I’m going to probably pick up Mario Kart DS, Pokemon Platinum and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

  15. Kai says:

I don’t particularly want to get the DSi but the hinge on my DS is cracked and starting to go. The top screen is getting more wobbly with every use. I am still debating whether to get another DS or wait and get a DSi.

  16. Derek says:

No thanks, Nintendo. I’ll wait for an actual successor to the DS before I spend another near-$200 for another aesthetic upgrade with a few bells and whistles.

  17. WII-LUIGI$ says:

DSi has a home with me come April 5th. I mean, it’s not that I don’t give a 1-UP about the DS Lite. I mean, heck, I still have an old GBA SP: Classic NES Edition with the plug still that I can resort to playing my GBA games on. But what REALLY SEALS THE DEAL for me with DSi is DSiWare & the DSi Shop. The apps so far look REALLY GOOD, aka: the Memo one. Plus that Animal Crossing & Super Mario Bros. calculator. Even the DSi Sound and the 2 cameras on the DSi has me itching to try it out. Although also, I’m still holding on to hope at the end of this tunnel of darkness for everyone out there who CRITISIZES THE HECK out of the DSi, that the DSi has a DS Virtual Handheld. AKA: like a Virtual Console = to the Wii. POINTER at March 25th, 2009: 9 AM PST, Iwata GDC Keynote. EXPECT IT!! ;)

  18. WII-LUIGI$ says:

Also, if not at Iwata’s March 25th Keynote, then be sure to expect the news hopefully guaranteed to happen at E3 2009 or TGS 2009. I know it’s hidden in the DSi somewhere. You doubters out there will all see when I’m right.

  19. Joltman says:

    Launch Day for me!
I think I’m the first pre-order for a DSi here in NOA-land (that doesn’t work at Nintendo).
And I’m still wondering why they aren’t releasing White as well.
The Blue is a bit too funky for me, so I pre-ordered the Black one. Looks way better.

  20. DaveRage says:

Hellz to the no! I need my GBA slot!

  21. InvisibleMan says:

Given my outlook on buying games for my DS this year (I only have one scheduled purchase!), I’m thinking MAYBE on 2010… and that depends on the kind of exclusive software the DSi will get!

  22. InvisibleMan says:

(Oh, and by the way, the one game I am planning to purchase for my DS Lite this year actually uses the GBA slot! So, another reason NOT to get the DSi this year…)

  23. I have a DS lite and I love to play my GBA games on it, bottom line its not enough of an upgrade to get one. This is for people who never purchased the DS fat or DS lite and would want the most up to date, best of the best. But I will buy one to put in my Nintendo museum, but to play…nope.

  24. Mr.TaXXXi says:

I´ll pick one up on launch-day (in Germany 04.April) for my girlfriend. She wanted a DS for a while now, but now, that the DSi is coming, we´re gonna wait one month for that. I´m happy with my DS lite, i just got 3 months ago. And i´m happy to have the chance to play around with both of them from now on (the Lite and the DSi that is ;) ).

BTW: Thanks for your very entetaining and informative podcast, i always enjoy listening! Keep up the good work!

  25. Lite says:

I’m getting it at launch. Black, thank you. I reserved it at GameStop. I guess I might have to change my name to iLite… or Lite DSi… or Darc…

  26. Mohan says:

I got mine on reserve, so I will be picking it up first thing on Sunday April 5th. :)

  27. Brent says:

I’ll wait for my July birthday.

  28. blaknail says:

i dont see the point in buying this,im very happy with my ds for now.

  29. Sami says:

Seriously, the MEMO app looks pretty good?

Every electronic doodad I’ve ever owned has a memo function, from the Dear Diary that I owned in elementary school to my Blackberry – and how many times have I used a memo app for anything? Not once.
