Poll – Animal Crossing: City Folk
Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 at 10:52am by DavidIn less than two weeks, the new version of Animal Crossing is coming out for Wii. So this week, we’d like to know:
Do you want Animal Crossing: City Folk?
Tell us why, why not, or whatever in comments!

Animal Crossing is one of my favourite franchises. I’ve loved it since I first played it on Gamecube.
I picked “No,” however. I’m just too dissappointed in this title to warrant a 60 dollar purchase. It’s still almost exactly the same as it was on the N64 some 8 years ago. Visually, it looks worse than some of the budget-priced Wii titles and there have been no major gameplay enhancements besides what was supposed to be in Wild World. This title screams lazy and I’m afraid Nintendo is tarnishing the reputation of such a great franchise by being so lazy about development.
I’ll still give the title a chance but as it is right now, i’m not going near it. Maybe Nintendo will learn to make a quality next-gen animal crossing then.

I heard its digital crack, just say no!

Not this time. I was disappointed in the lack of innovation with the last DS title and the Wii version just has too little new to offer.

I don’t know yet.
Reasons to get it:
+ Animal Crossing is a fun social game, and would probably get played by both me and my wife.
+ WiiSpeak is something I want to get.
Reasons not to get it:
- High price tag (partly because of the added peripheral).
- So far, there really doesn’t look like much innovation in the game… in fact, possibly NO innovation over the Wild World version on DS.
Unless Nintendo convinces me that there is something new and special about the Wii version, then we might be better off paying much less for the GameCube version (which also has classic NES games you can unlock and play). The only reason that might not work is that my non-gaming wife doesn’t like traditional controllers.

I do wanna buy this game but I think there should have been more new stuff in the game. I do not know if there is going to be any DLC. If there is and i wont cost nintendo points I will be more happy with the game. Anyone know the answer to this?

no time to play.

Can’t wait for Animal Crossing Wild World Wii version.

This is going to be awesome! I can’t wait for it.
Especially with the ability to transfer items from the DS version to the Wii version and back!
That means I can have my Triforce from the DS version in my new place in the Wii version!
That’s definitely a cool feature.
As well as the WiiSpeak – typing in messages was a hassle in the DS version, so just speaking to people is a whole lot better.

I’ve paid for this game twice already, unless I see something more than voice chat as an added feature, I’ll take a pass.

Not my cup of tea.

I chose no. I agree with others that while Animal Crossing is a solid, fun, relaxed franchise, there’s too much other stuff to play right now to give it much attention. Maybe for half-price on eBay six months from now if it’s gotten a strong following.

I said “Yes”! on the WANTING to get it… but I might be short for cash this time around.
Also, a console verison of Animal Crossing represents a considerable time investment for me: I can only play that kind of game on the run, on potty breaks, and while I’m driving (and drinking coffee at the same time!).
Another problem I have is that my daughter recently erased my DS Animal Crossing town, and I’m heart broken about it… I might not have the courage to go into City Folk empty handed!

That’s funny: it looks as if most people in this blog have now too little time to play a game like Animal Crossing! Why is “Yes” getting most votes? Is it because deep inside we all want it, but we don’t have the time to play it??
November 4th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
I certainly want it and want to see Wiispeak get a lot more support. I’m just not sure I’ll have the money to buy it this year (too many other “must haves”, plus I got a DS to feed now too.)
November 4th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
No.
Aside from last gen voice chat functionality in the game, there is nothing really new here.
I wont even think twice about this stale franchise until they refresh it with some good old fashioned Nintendo magic and innovation!

I want it, but I probably can’t get it anytime soon. I’ll be spending all my money on Guitar Hero!
Off topic: The amount of viewers for Pushing Daisies is really low, so start watching! It’s really funny. Airs on Wednesday. On channel 8(ABC).

The only reason I bought the one for the GCN was to try and collect all the NES games. There is no other reason to play the game. I am not a fan of games with no purpose, hence why I did not enjoy this or Harvest Moon series all that much.
And it looks like they’ve added very little to this “sequel,” which you could more or less say is just a port of the GCN/DS versions with a few touches.
They totally revamp Mario and Star Fox and Zelda, but not AC apparently.

“I am not a fan of games with no purpose…”
XCWarrior, what is the “purpose” of video games??

I feel privleged and blessed. Most of the negative comments have been because they’ve already ‘been there, done that’. I, on the other hand, haven’t. I’ve been intrigued by the series since it came out, but never had the time to invest in it. Now that my almost 7 year old is learning how to read I can vicariously live through his limitless free time. This looks like a great game for a gamer dad with young children.
