Overlord graphics “blow everything away” on Wii, says developer

Dated graphics got you down?

While speaking to Video Gamer, a no-name producer by the name of Dean Scott confidently said he’s got the game for you — an action adventure title dubbed Overlord: Dark Legend, coming to Wii later this year.

“When people see this game in motion, they are going to be seriously impressed. It sounds like such a lame cliché to say ‘it looks like the 360 version’, but that’s true. Not exactly, but it’s closer than we ever imagined possible on the platform… In terms of looks, it blows away just about everything else I’ve seen on Wii,” he concluded.

There you have it. I suspect we’ll hear these kinds of promises until the Wii reaches its grave, no?

hahaha- i just like hearing producers sound genuinely excited about the graphics.

  2. Myst says:

This game looks pretty fun so I’m really looking forward to seeing an indepth preview of it.

  3. Jack says:

This sounds just like a movie trailer that doesn’t include any dialogue from the movie. Usually means the movie is going to suck, and usually happens in the summer. Sorry, but color me skeptical, at best.

  4. Fuzz says:

Well at least it sounds like they are trying. . . more than we can say for most developers whose graphics department sits on the toilet all day and pick whose crap looks the ugliest before packaging it a shoving it out the door.

  5. John says:

It looks nice. Isnt it “Overlord” though, article poster?

  6. Damien says:

Didn’t Overlord sell kind of poorly?

  7. Joshdad says:

Hey EA, and Ubisoft, and the rest of you developers, did you hear what this guy said? This sounds like a challenge to me. Are you going to let him get away with that?
Come, on, let’s see you step up to the plate, and meet this guys challenge. Let’s see you give it your best shot.

BTW, if this game has better graphics and physics than the Conduit, I’ll be surprised – pleasantly so.

  8. Peshue says:

I heard this game was pretty fun on the 360. I hope they’re putting as much effort into the controls as they are the graphics.

  9. Wii Wii says:

The demo was great on the 360 and it is on my ” eventual” p[lay list. now that the game is coming out for the wii and looks nice, maybe I will pick it up on the Wii!

  10. Reynard says:

That’s good to hear and all, but I wish this was a better game in the first place, I played this on PC and found it fiddly and repetitive.

  11. Liraco says:

Apparently the bar has been set so low that raising it to waist height blows practically 95% of available titles away.

The demo didn’t get me hooked, so I’ll pass. Nice to see them kick some graphical arse though.

  12. Dr. Rock says:

looks pretty good, and i’ll add it to my “To-buy list”

  13. Derek says:

All I ask is that Wii games look better than RE4 on GameCube. If the hardware is even incrementally more powerful, every game should.

  14. Paolo says:

better than the upcoming The Conduit? I don’t think so! But anyway by looking at a single shot I would say that the art style is pretty good!
My hopes though relies on the control scheme and fun factor!

    I agree, Derek.

Holy shit, did I just say what I think I said and to who I think I said it to? 0_0

    This.

I look at the visuals in RE4, Starfox Adventures and the Rogue Squadron series and think ‘wii developers…. what the hell gives!?’

  17. frstOne says:

Add Twilight Princess to that list.

  18. deepthought says:

    lol @ poochy

  19. Derek says:

Poochy, I was as surprised by your comment as you were. 😉

Yes…this is what I’ve been screaming since the Wii came out. There’s no excuse for every game to look at least slightly better than RE4, Star Fox Adventures, etc the best looking games on the GC. And so far we’ve seen way too many games that not only don’t meet that, they don’t even look AS good as those games; some I’d argue are Dreamcast level visuals. And thanks to SMG, SSBB, and Metroid Prime 3, we KNOW the Wii can do better visuals.

Anyway, I’ll hold my breath, but saying it will “blow away just about everything else on the Wii”, well that’s actually not saying a whole lot.

Wow. Just from that one screen shot, it looks pretty damn good. From the several videos of The Conduit I saw, it didn’t look as great as everyone says it does. The textures weren’t made too well. However The Conduit has some healthy competition now in the visuals department. Now let’s see how the gameplay handles.
