NPDs are in….DS tops 3DS for April

Before I go further, let me just say that Nintendo and the 3DS are both going to be just fine. Ok, now that we have that out of the way, hi folks. I hope everyone is ready to talk sales numbers and such. If you’re not, stop right now and instead listen to Infendo Radio. For the rest of you, I’ll see you after the break.

Alright, let’s get down to it. Any way you look at it, Nintendo had a pretty monster April here in the States. Let’s talk hardware first.

For some reason the final tally for DS in not in as of yet, but it has been confirmed that 3DS was outsold but DS for the month of April, it’s just a matter of clearing up by how much. This really isn’t all that surprising when you take into account that 3DS only had two games (Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time 3D and The Sims 3) released in April. It also doesn’t hurt that DS lite retails for $120 less than 3DS.

Wii…Wii didn’t have great month. Wii was outsold by both PS3 and Xbox 360 for the month of April but oddly enough, five of the top ten games were Wii titles.

I think it’s nuts how well the Just Dance franchise has done in America. Both titles have combined to sell over 7 million units in North America. It’s also going to be interesting to see next months Wii Sports numbers in the wake of Nintendo removing it as a Wii pack-in and giving it a boxed copy of it’s own.

Thoughts? Will 3DS sales pick up once quality titles arrive (aka Zelda) and more games are revealed at next months e3?
