No Mii birthdays on Wii

Birthday boy Scott at numberless.net was anticipating a celebration of his birth like none ever experienced before.

At the very least, I expected my Mii to be wearing a party hat. In my most grandiose expectations, however, I imagined that when the player entered the Mii Channel, the birthday Mii would be front-and-center, and all the other Mii’s would be throwing confetti, jumping up and down, and singing “Happy Birthday.”

Bummer. I was sort of hoping for the same thing myself. Happy birthday, anyway!

So why do you think Nintendo has you create a birth date for your Mii?

…so they can profile you using the everybody votes channel. If you linked your Wii account to your My Nintendo account, they already get alot of info there, including your credit card number if you entered it. They probably have your home address if you have ever ordered anything, now they have your birthday, and they know your favorite colour is blue and you like to vacation on the beach. . .Hold on a sec. I need to adjust my tinfoil hat.

For a moment, that sounded like a really good idea. I mean, there’s some decent data mining they could do that way.

And then I thought – what good would that do, if I have “Ad. Akbar” vote for this, and the Office cast vote for these, and the only two REAL votes are mine and my wife’s. How do they know which ones are real and which ones aren’t?
Good theory on the data mining, but doesn’t work in practice.

It’s all part of their plan for world domination. The younger wii owners are easier to brain wash using hidden subliminal messages. Nintendo just wants to know who they are training to be memebers of their secret army….

You receive a Wii message that says “Happy Birthday!”

how about people actually suggest this to nintendo en mass.

maybe they didnt think of it, but would love the idea. nintendo is known to at least read mail/email that customers send to them, and at least look like they take it seriously.
so if enough people send in the idea, maybe NOA will voice that opinion to NCL and something will happen.
i like the idea myself, something like a party hat, or even confetti being thrown and all the Miis doing things in celebration.

holiday events would be neat also.

    Something I just thought of…

I wonder if the Nintendo’s design for the birthday was to describe the birth day of the Mii itself rather than the one represented by the Mii, i.e. the day the Mii was created.

Let’s just say it is for Nintendo’s nefarious “Phase Two.”

    @Eric
That’s how I’ve understood it. I put in February 16 for my Venture Bros. Miis (since that was the date the show debuted (Wikipedia!)). Never got nothin’ but none of ‘em.

Maybe it’s like the “expansion port” on the previous Nintendo consoles, built for unnamed future use (like what Anonymous said about “Phase Two”).

I figure that there’s nothing big in the Mii channel to avoid things like having to deal with birthday celebrations randomly happening when it’s Hitler’s birthday or Bush’s birthday or whoever else you have as Miis. Games like Wario Ware Smooth Moves let you use the Miis like save file characters, perhaps future games, say, Animal Crossing, would not need to ask for your birthday, as it’s stored in the Mii that you may select before starting.

There is no possible way for them to collect age data as the birthday input is month and day only. I don’t see why that info would be relevant to Nintendo without a DOB with a year. I was hoping like the author that we were going to get a birthday surprise. Maybe it’s just not implemented yet.

Well, it WAS my Mii’s b-day today, and THERE IS NOTHING. So I checked New Mii, like maybe there are special outfits… nope.
    WHY, NINTENDO, WHY???
