Rumor has it that both Metroid and Super Metroid are on their way to the virtual console in the coming week. Scoop me Kotaku!
With Metroid Prime 3: Corruption just a few short weeks away from release on the Wii, it looks like Nintendo is set to ramp up with hype with a pair of Virtual Console releases. Images for both Metroid for the NES and Super Metroid for the SNES have appeared on the VC web server and spotted by an eagle-eyed NeoGAF poster.
This is cool, yet this is horrible. I would have rather played Super Metroid earlier this summer before Prime 3 hits the Wii. Thanks, Nintendo. Just thanks!

Makes sense to me and I really wouldn’t complain. I can’t seem to find the power cord to my SNES……
I’ve been WAITING for Super Metroid to come out for the VC, but I figured they’d try and time it with Prime 3 somehow, even though they didn’t do the same with Paper Mario… Anyway, I’ve never owned or played Super Metroid, but I have ALWAYS wanted to, so I don’t care when it comes out, just the sooner the better.
Here’s a hint: Play the one that feels like an actual Metroid game.
I thought Metroid was already available? It’s already out on the European VC. It went up on July 20th.
This is great news. I’ve been waiting for Super Metroid since I first got hooked on VC.
I’ve already picked up Metroid on VC. I’m a little shocked that we – the UK at least – got something before you guys over the pond.
I’ll be happy to get Super Metroid, whenever it comes out. Don’t need the original with it unlocked in Prime 1.
Super Metroid is a must buy from day one. Can’t wait!
I really love the VC. I’m playing games that I would otherwise overlooked. I’m playing through Paper Mario now and I love it.
NOOOOOOO
I want Super Metroid on the DS on the Classic SNES Series.
Great news! I’ve always wanted to try Super Metroid, but never owned a SNES.
Although I sometimes think that VC prices are a bit high because you can’t trade or sell the games after you are finished with them, Super Metroid should easily be worth the Wii Points for me.

Question to anyone who has unlocked the original game in Metroid Prime: Do you only have to use the GBA link once to unlock the original game, or do you have to connect your GBA every time you want to play the original Metroid?
ejamer . . . Once.
Finally, the only Metroid, other than Prime 3 (obviously) that I haven’t played.
hospee . . . Excellent, thanks!
