Nintendo says Wii on track to meet targets

Reuters reports: “Nintendo is on track to meet its target of selling 4 million units of its Wii game console globally by the end of the year, with the potential for exceeding that goal limited only by manufacturing constraints, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said on Wednesday. ‘All systems are go for reaching the 4-million target we have in our financials by December 31… We will sell everything we make so now it’s simply a manufacturing thing.'”

Do you think Nintendo will hit its 4 million Wii target by year’s end?

If they make and ship 4 million units, they will sell them as soon as they hit the store’s warehouse.

    So yes, absolutely.

Definitely. There’s just too much positive buzz around it, and it’s all over the mainstream press. My favorite is Stephen Colbert’s boxing match.

If they do sell 4mil by the end of the year it will be devastating for Sony, and very bad for Microsoft. Hopefully that will get the attention of the 3rd party devs.

I won’t count them out. 4 million worldwide will be easy. How damaging will that be to Sony and Microsoft though? How long did it take Microsoft to sell 4 million units?

Do you honestly think I’m going to contradict Reggie in a public forum? I like having a name and not having shoe prints you know where. Nice try Infendo.

If you factor in the Japanese launch, then definitely, if they make 4 mil, they will sell.

If Japan and Europe manage to create buzz similar to the US launch, then I definitely see Nintendo surpassing 4 million (so long as they can pump out more than the estimated amount).

It’s crazy but, I never saw a system sell out here in Mexico. Despite the outrageous price (double the US amount), it’s SOLD OUT everywhere you go, heck, I was lucky enough to spot only 2 VC controllers and 1 wiimote. Meanwhile 360s are so abundant (and have been since launch) that they managed to make an x-mas tree out of their overflowing console stock (and put a master chief statue on top).

All Nintendo has to do now is keep pumping out fun games (or maybe boost the amount of VC consoles with multiplayer like bomberman so far).
