As part of an “Emergency Maintenance” procedure, Some of Nintendo’s online services will be down for a period of time.  Although it is not uncommon for an online gaming community to be inaccessible during maintenance, it can be a bit of an inconvenience.  Nintendo released the following statement in regards to the maintenance.

“During the emergency maintenance, parts of the affected services may be intermittently unavailable.”

Obviously it does not tell us what the emergency is, however I hope it is proactive and not reactive maintenance.

I am sure they will be up and rinning again in no time. They may be planning a virtual conso.le service for the Wii U. In the latest Nintendo Direct, Iwata did say there would be one system update in spring and another in Summer. This may be a part of that.
